Barbarian/Stone Age Costume

I am trying to put together a Stone Age barbarian costume. I don't want any metal at all, so all the materials need to be or at least look like bone/wood/stone. I have several stone and bone weapons and a sweet headress (complete coyote) so far. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to make pants/covering with animal hides. I am fairly well musceled so I figured for the top I could make a simple cloak that leaves one shoulder exposed. I am using deer pelts with the fur still on.

I also was looking at using about 5 to 10 turtle shells to make some kind of shield. I have a couple of ideas about making a wood frame out of saplings and then drilling small holes in the shells and using leather lace to attach them in some kind of pattern to the wooded frame.

Some reference photos or sketches would be nice. Helps people help you if they have some photos to look at. I'm sure you can get a group of folks together for this. The key to something like this is the physical fitness and originality of the costume. Good luck!

Ok, I have fur covered greaves and bracers, and I think I have the pants figured out. If I take a kidney belt or weightlifting belt and fold rabbit pelts over the top I could create something that would look like a loincloth of fur, but wear shorts under it. Instead of a shield consiting of bunches of turtle shells I could make on large shield out of the biggest snapper shell I can find and then use smaller ones to make some kind of upper arm covering by overlapping the shells. I will try to post some sketches of my idea later tonight if I have time.

I like your ideas so far For the 'pants' part I was thinking you could make a wrap around skirt from scraps of leather, trying to use the raw edges as much as possible...that is, if you're OK with wearing a skirt. I've made a few of them and if you hand stitch it and add things like wood/bone/stone beads, animal claws, leather strings and the like, you'll get a really cool look going.

Hope this helps! ^^
