Help with platform shoes

I am making a grim reaper costume and want to make a pair of platform boots to add an additional 5" in height to my already 6'2" frame. Does anyone know the type / name of high density foam used for platform shoe soles and where I might be able to purchase some? It is typically a black, closed cell type of lightweight foam material and quite rigid.

I apologize if this gets posted twice but I posed it earlier and it said it would be reviewed and then posted but that was hours ago.

thanks,
SS

if you search Frankenstein boots in google images you'll see a pic of what I'm talking about.

I've always just heard of this material called "high density foam"... It's what my sword and shield are made out of, and that's how the seller described it. Are you trying to create the same shoes as the Frankenstein boots, but for a lower cost than it would be to buy them? If this is the case, you can probably come out with just about the same price by looking for used ones on eBay or in a thrift store. Or, if you're trying to make a different shoe with the same material, you can buy that type of foam by particular measurements online. Not sure about in-store locations, though!

something with the stability youd want for walking on would be classified
as an UHDPE (ultra-high density polyethelene)

which will vary by company, some HDPE can be as soft as cheap foam pool floats

polystyrene can be high density as well, styrene is the typically white foam
bricks you find in packaging, and is also used as crash wall on racetracks

as far as whats used in shoes, i dont know
i have looked up shoemaking before, but dont remember foam as a structural layer
how ever cork is kindof similar, perhaps your simply mistaken?

I need to know this too! For Monster High shoes. Or where to get plain platform shoes, even.

You can find metric TONS of platform shoes on eBay. If you're having trouble, just look for some Baby Spice shoes.

I think I know what black foam you are talking about. I don't know where you can buy it. If you find out please let me know.

Here's someone who did it with wood:

Personally, I would not risk the ankle injury and do not recommend trying this.
