Vivienne from Phantasy Star

Hey fellow cosplayers! ^^

I'd like to ask for your help~ I want to cosplay Vivienne from Phantasy Star, and I have a few ideas. But I'd like to ask for your ideas on how to make the costume. I'm not used to making full body suits, so your help is greatly appreciated!

I'd probably buy a black body with turtle neck and short black pants as base and to straight ahead with painting the patterns on.

Personally I'd treat the dress + sleeves as fabric, the shoulder parts as armor, shoes as a mix of armor and fabric, using fabric until the knees and then use craft foam for the rest.

Also I'd be using shoes with high heels as base and cut a hole for the heel through a round ball of foam (you will most likely have to cut that one out yourself)to be albe to walk, while still having the right optic.

That would be my generell idea. Is there anything SPECIFIC you want to know?

Ahh. but wouldn't the cloth be too flimsy and not appear like a robot suit?

I'd like to know if I can use pure foamcore, since that's what it looks like to me. . . Or any way to make it look like that. ^^ And perhaps what kind of paint to use on the cloth.

Hmm... I think not with the black parts...

You might be right on the dress, thought I have to admit I have thought more of wearing comfort in that matter.

One option would of course to strengthen the cloth to make it more stiff. The other to also make it out of craft foam.

I'm afraid I do not know what foamcore is, so I can't answer that question.

As for colors on cloth: There are specific colors (looking similar to acryl colors) just for clothes. There is a separate brand for dark clothes, so if you decide to make the black parts out of cloth and want to apply the white pattern to it, I recommend really going for the slightly more expensive color that is specific for dark fabric. I've tried to save costs once, that was a good enough lection for me not to attempt that again. ^^°

Ah yeah the black parts should be cloth, definitely. ^^

Hmm. . . So for craft form, I'd need to make a pattern first right? then cut and sew and etc.

Ahhh.. I see. I'll have to look for those paints. >.< They're pretty hard to find here.

Thanks a lot for the help! ^^

... Well, you could sew a base out of white fabric for examle and pretty much use the patterns to glue the craft foam on as well.

If you don't find them, check out online shops. You shouldn't have much troubles finding them.
Here in Europe the things are about 2-3 EUR but in US it's usually cheaper.
