Guns and Swords

So I'm going to a convention in the near future, and have all my cosplays lined up. What I need, though is to make props for one of my characters: Dante, from Devil May Cry 3. I've made a cheap-o version of his Rebellion sword before. (http://dmc3-gv.seesaa.net/image/rebellion_white.gif), but I'd like to make a better one.

My first attempt was made with clay, PVC, cardboard, and fiberglass. The concern here is that the convention rules won't allow bulky weapons like this one to be hardened- like with fiberglass. What other materials could I make this prop out of? I'd like to keep the project relatively low-key: I'd put about a week into it and try to keep it reasonably cheap.

Also, I'd need to make his guns, Ebony and Ivory (http://crimsonsguns.tripod.com/ebony). Not quite sure how to make these, since last time I used BB guns. The con won't allow any firearms that are functional, so I'd need to make 'em out of something. Any ideas?

Thanks a bunch for any suggestions! And sorry if this belongs in the Devil May Cry thread- I saw it as more of a "help needed" thing than a fangasm thing.

You can also check Deviant Art, as I've seen some great tutorials on there.
