Hi All,

This will be my first costume con--I'm really excited to geek out and learn from costumey masters. I'm thinking about putting something together for the video masquerade, but there are no details up yet. Has CC held a video masquerade in the past?

I think she means this "video masquerade" that Henry speaks of the on the website but that isn't fully explained. As far as I know, this is the first time. I wasn't at the last two CCs, though, so maybe they did it at 26 or 27.

The video Masquerade has been done a few times, at least 4, I believe as far back as CC-15, 1997.

The biggest drawback to it, it would seem, is finding a time, or a way to have the entire con see it. which has proven to be tough.

but with everyone having cameras now, and a you tube world we live in, I can't see how this is NOT a major thing in the future.
One thing I really enjoy about all these newer folks in the past ten years, is the attention to getting pictures taken in proper surroundings. The vid Masq is simply the next step.

It seems like an awesome idea, to be sure. I would consider doing it next year, but this year I don't have time with the lack of information on the site currently.

That's interesting, Mr. Gravely. After having dragged a bunch of props to Comic Con, the video masquerade definitely appeals to both my lazy and control freaky sides : )

Yeah, the improvements in technology are a definite factor - even I can shoot a video now! (I can also guarantee it won't be very good - I'm more of a still-photo kind of person )

I also think a big plus in the future for this will be , because you usually in the rules, don't have to be there to compete.
join the con, mail in your entries, win a prize.

Oh bother. The video masquerade at CC28 was supposed to be Andy and my area. It didn't occur to me to look here for questions about it, and since no one had emailed the info address at CC28 by January we didn't think there was time to assemble it.

Major fail on my part. I will partly plead a bad case of life, as my job went absolutely insane the second half of last year and I couldn't get out to promote the idea properly.

We had two problems that we didn't find good solutions to: the first, as mentioned, being how to fit a display of the entries into the convention schedule.
The second was how to get the entries distributed to a panel of judges in advance and make sure they saw them all. We weren't convinced youtube would actually work for that.

Had we gone forward, our rules would have looked almost exactly like the CC26 rules still online at

You'll note the 3 months advance entry? We ended up with only one entry for CC26.

Since we hadn't noticed any even signs of interest by January 2010, we figured there wasn't enough interest this year and let it slide.

If we could find a way to save this idea, how many folks are actually interested in producing an entry? Do you have any suggestions for how we might accomplish the distribution/judging before the convention?*

My apologies for not thinking to look here earlier, and thanks to the CC28 committee members who alerted me yesterday.

*An important part of "accomplishing this" is not being killed by Andy for trying to save it at the last minute

I did a little more research today, and Andy and I discussed logistics this evening.

We could still have a competition THIS year if there are people with videos to enter!

If we could have FIVE entries by April 15 (yes, tax day), we could use the private features of YouTube to make it available for judges before the convention.

Look at the old CC26 rules (ignoring the date deadlines) and see if you want to submit. We're considering waiving the convention membership requirement for submission, as well, since the only prizes we can offer are made of paper and personal glory
