Best way to make a Digivice?

Okay, so for my upcoming Davis cosplay, I was looking into getting my hands on a D-3 Digivice. Unfortunately, they are too expensive for me to afford for a prop, so I've decided to make on instead.

What I was wondering was what would be the best method to make the Digivice? I've seen a tutorial on this site that makes one from cardboard (http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=165841), and I've also heard Model Magic is good for making props. This is pretty much the last thing I need for the outfit (and the shoes), so I have a good month to work on it, making time a non-issue.

So what method would look this best / be most durable / not be too expensive?

Thanks!

Your might be able to find a chepo pardomator (fail spelling, but the thing that keeps track of how far you've walked) and build off of that?
Or better yet little kid toy walkie talkies!! I dont have any links off hand to some that might work, but its simple items you can add to with clay or foam perhaps.
Good luck!

Cardboard, foam board, and craft foam can work pretty well. I actually owned the D3 when I was younger! It's really small though, so you might want to try to make your own anyway.

I'd do the basic shape out of cardboard/foam board, then detail it a bit with thinner cardboard.
Use some kind of putty on the edges and where the pieces join, and sand smooth.
Detail a bit more, prime, and paint. Should be pretty basic. ;D

Thanks for the suggestions, people. I've never had to make a prop before, so I realize I might be asking something that seems like common sense.

Anyways, I'll check out this Craft Foam stuff. And the idea to build off a kid's electronic seems fun too, especially since the original Digivice had pedometers. I hope I can fit it in with the Craft Foam somehow and keep the pedometer working.

Hey, just thought I'd share this with you guys:

http://www.cosplay.com/marketplace/s...t/24879/cat/15

Someone's making them for a pretty decent price.

Oh, btw, I am in no way endorsing the maker. I just saw it and thought it was interesting :]

Just thought I'd put in how things turned out.

Model Magic was rather horrible for a Digivice. Even after a good amount of sealant and such, it was all but broken when the con ended. A friend told me Cloud Clay is a better alternative, in case anyone else still needs to make something.

Of course, inexperience also screwed me over.
