Hair Color and Complexion
Hey, this is still about wigs so I think this is the right place to ask. Anyways, how do you know if a certain color wig will look good on someone. Because not all colors work for all people, I was wondering how you can tell BEFORE buying it. I am looking into a cosplay (Holo from Wolf and Spice) that will require me to wear a red-ish colored wig. I have a light to medium olive skin tone, depending on the season and sun exposure. Anyone have any personal experience with hair colors and matching skin tones?

some wig place have samples...they are swatches of hiar that you can hold up and see what it looks like with your skin tone...that is a good way to go if the wig places have them.

I am lucky that I can wear practically any colour, however I find myself preferring cool tones over warm so I will tend to skew colours slightly to reflect that.
If the colour is a tone difference you can just use a rinse of acrylic ink (or other preferred dyeing technique) to change the shade. It requires very little to just tip the colour to your preferred shade. I have a big blonde wig that I made and used acrylic paint watered down and spritzed to the roots and cap to blend it in with my hair. In principle I could have used that to colour the whole thing to suit me better too, but I found that it was enough to do the top sections as it mimicked hair that was starting to show roots ![]()

I'm olive fair so I have both blue and yellow in my skin tone. Pale pink is the only shade I find that clashes badly in clothing.
![]() I also bought a swatch ring from cosworx to test shades from now one. My grandmas has the Mediterranean complexion and she had red dyed hair for ages she was close to a medium skin tone. Depending on how pigmented you colour is I would go with henna red over the tea brown wigs you find on ebay for her. That colour is more faltering on paler skin tones (like the wig stand >_<). The closer you get to a medium skin tone the contract between your skin and wig will start to match and won't have the pop you want.

Okay thanks. I think I get it. I've heard a lot about cool/warm skin color and I don't think I'm really strong either way. Hmmm...but you've given me hope!
