The weapon policy should be specific on what wooden sword. They should specify it as "practice wooden sword" because that would mean a bokken, bokuto and Taichi practise sword and a shinai. These weapons are meant only to be in the dojo.

However,Most of my sword props are made of plywood .I will go to the Anime Vegas forum to check this rule.

When everybody were carrying their bokken at the con , I had mine covered in a bokken bag, a practise I do from my Aikido training.I only take it out when my photo is taken. But not everybody are trained in martial art .There is an ettiquite to follow when it comes to weapons.

Anyway, I have been going to Anime Vegas for the past years except for the first year.It is still a growing con and they still need to improve their programing when it comes to panels. Most of their panels are related to the voice actors. But their event programs are pretty good.

I also know the organizer of this con...I always combine this trip as a mini vacation.
update:
I've sent out an email about this and hope they amend the policy

i have never been to Anime Vegas, I did just get back from staying at (Alexis Park Hotel) where the Anime Vegas is being held this year, i stayed there to attend (Momo-i Night) just to check things out at the Hotel so if i do go to Anime Vegas this year i will kinda know the Layout.

out of 5 stars i give Alexis Park Hotel a 2

1. the bathroom Lock was broken

2.The Kitchen Sink kept sounding like water was dripping and Gurgling noises wouldnt stop throughout the WHOLE Night, woke me up every 30 minutes. it was that loud

3.on Saturday Night There were Hundreds of Black-gangsta (wannabe's) parking at the Alexis since its free parking, they were giving people hard times, also ALOT of trashy Women half dressed walking through the Alexis, dunno if they were with the crowd (whatever)

4. Room Smelled like Burned Popcorn had to open windows as soon as i walked in.

5. when checking out took 20 Minutes before anyone knew i was at Counter, place was Empty not 1 staff member,i had to be checked out by a Security guard.

(Overall) from what else i saw Pools were kept pretty clean, Alexis park Hotel, seemed like it was going for an old Spanish Style Look, the way everything is layed out ect. there are Security Guards on Bikes all Night Patrolling, alot of Parking, but can fill up Quickly due toi Its FREE parking so Travelers/Locals use it for other Events in Area.

i had never been to Cashman Convention Center so i dont know how that place is. but i do hope Alexis Park Hotel Provides Everyone with what they Want/Need out of Convention with Rooms,Panels,Concert Hall

going back to Number 3 i am NOT racist, so please dont think i am by the way i said black-gangsta wannabe's.,.

i hope Alexis park Hotel, is Safe/Safer for Younger people that will be Attending Anime Vegas this September, because to me some streets of LA looked Safer. but for $60 a night for a Room,Free Parking. What can you Expect? i think i'll stay at Sahara Casino for the Con.

alright thats my input for Alexis Park Hotel. sorry if i kinda went off topic (What Is This Convention Like) but i dodnt want to Kill Space with a New Thread just on this Topic.

Time for Bed!

Hmm, that's unfortunate. Perhaps I was too young to notice these things, but the hotel seemed pretty nice when I went. The only thing that was a little weird was the Gay Catholics convention happening at the same time as a yo-yo tournament for kids. "Not that there's anything wrong with that."

Oh wow...

I looked at the reviews at Trip Advisor as well, and it's not exactly that great either for this hotel.

It doesn't inspire confidence when I read reviews from "khaimz":

Quote:
I did not feel very comfortable (safe) at the Alexis Park simply because it is a motel (rooms opening to the exterior of the building) and is off the strip. Had my husband not been with me, I would not have stayed here.
When AnimeVegas 2008 was held at the Renaissance hotel, it was very safe & secure.

However, if safety is going to be a possible issue at the Alexis Park hotel, then perhaps..I should start thinking about skipping this year's con. I really don't want to have to deal with gangbangers on a Saturday Night, and if they park there and use it as hangout, there's going to be potential trouble for the cosplayers.

I hope the convention chairman, Rich will try to address this issue about safety, and take the appropriate measures, so it will be a safe con for all the attendees. Perhaps Rich and some of his staffers can come in on a random Saturday night and observe what happens at the Alexis Park hotel. (Especially at the parking lot.) Based on his observations, he can then consult with security & the hotel as to what measures need to be taken from there.

Someone told me it was a nice place (but this was years ago in 2005), but after hearing what sicdedman said and reading those reviews...

Yep, I'm not goin'. XD

Re: Ghetto Hotel

Are there are hotels on the strip that's close to this hotel? I don't mind taking a cab to Alexis park. I've been reading the reviews and it has me worried. I just want to look into my options before I commit booking a room.

The Hard Rock is right across the street. I imagine it's expensive though. I can't remember off the top of my head what else is close by, but it's on the corner of Paradise and Harmon.

I went to Alexis Park a few weeks ago and while I did not enter a hotel room I liked the grounds and all of the convention space. It also looked like they were doing some remodeling on hotel rooms.

The Hard Rock cafe can be pretty expensive, if you don't get the discounted rates. It's also where they held the famous Fetish & Fantasy Ball last Halloween. (It's also for adults only.)

Hmmm...Any chance that Rich could later take a look at the quality of the rooms, and if the parking lot is safe on a Saturday night? The Trip Advisor reviews on the Alexis hotel doesn't really inspire confidence as of the moment.

WEll hopefully the presence of tons of young cosplayers would scare of the bad elements away. The same effect as the cosplayers do to the LACC area, the police even said that the convention attendee scare the homeless away.

Anyway ,i am not planning on staying there but in a business hotel near the airport however their convention center facility looks pretty good and I bet Rich has inspected the area before they made the contract

I actually liked the Cashman center but we just cant have very late activities there .I loved the theater. The panel rooms are big enough, The exhibit hall was big but the other side is always the gun show.I just like dont like paying for parking .= but at least its cheap.

What I love about this con is that I am able to meet the voice actors casually. I am not an active voice actor so I dont get to see them and seeing them like Jerry,Colleen ,Yuri, Tara , director Mary Elizabeth and Vic is just awesome. That reminds me , I have to give Vic something from Kawaii Kon.

There are a few hotels by the Alexis. Terrible's Hotel and Casino is right by there, And Hard Rock is right across the street, and The Tuscany is also right by there too. There are alot of places to stay that are right by the Alexis. I don't know how much they charge. I know Hard Rock will cost alot.
This convention is fun every single year. There has never been a year that it wasn't a blast. This con is my favorite to go to. All the Staff is wonderful. There are LOTS of events.

It doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to go because none of the drivers in the family want to brave the holiday traffic *weeps*

For the past 3 years I've been going to Anime Expo only so this'll be my first time at a smaller con, I just hope that since the con's gonna be at the hotel I'll hardly ever have to go outside except in a group. lol
