Costuming at Blizzcon

I'm not sure where this work-in-progress thread really belongs, but I really need some place where I can get all my thoughts out, organize my plans and bounce ideas off of other like-minded and very talented costuming people. I am new to costuming, so I thought the newbies forum would be best.

After much thought, I've decided to try making a Sprite Darter costume for the upcoming Blizzcon '10. If you're unfamiliar with what they look like, it's sort of like a flamboyant flying chamelion.

There's no way I'm going to make it accurate and I'm not even trying. I'm going for a more mascot-y Sprite Darter inspired costume. I want it to have a good range of motion, be comfortable for hours of con-walking, be relatively warm (the convention center is COLD), and above all look decent and recognizable. I thought this costume would satisfy those needs very well. My concept art doodle:

List of Materials:

Spandex/Lycra bodysuit - Check
Airbrush - Check
Duct Tape
Stainless Steel wire
Canvas shoes/slippers

I plan on making a custom duct-tape dressform mannequin of both myself and my husband tonight. He hasn't chosen his costume yet, but it couldn't hurt to have a full-size model of him to work with once he does decide. Once the mannequins are complete and hanging in the garage where I can work, I hope things will move along a lot faster.

That is just possibly the best cosplay idea ever!

Your design looks great and it seems like you have a good grasp on what you need to do (Despite being new to costuming).

Keep updating the thread with progress shots! I'd be really curious to see. If you have any specific questions on how to do something, post 'em up, too! For now, I think you have a pretty good handle on things.

Also, this very long forum is full of people who would love to hear about your cosplay. Maybe they'd even be helpful. Or not. Who knows.

I think it is soo cool that you are doing a sprite darter! As a veteran WoW player, the sprite darter has been my favorite little pet for about... 4 years or so. I think that your design is great. I didnt get tickets to this year's blizzcon, so please post pictures!!!
