Location Scouting for Anime Expo

I was wondering if anyone of the photographers here have any good locations for shooting at LACC? I haven't been to expo since they moved there from Anaheim CC, and I don't think I'll get there early enough to do a proper job scouting. Are there any suggestions for hidden places on the convention floor that might prove useful?

I've been looking around the neighborhood using google maps/earth to check some potential areas and I was wondering if anyone of you have ever used these before?

Behind the CC near parking garage & roof of parking garage.

Grand Hope Park, a couple blocks form the CC

Another couple green patches behind the CC

Traffic Median between the two wings of the convention center. Think it might be good for evening shots with the light streaks of cars going on behind in the background.

There are some other places that I've thought of but ruled out since its so far from the con, like the Walt Disney Concert Hall. I was also thinking of some hotels, like the Standard which has a rooftop deck. I'd like to find somewhere where there is a good view of the city scape as a background.

Last year there was an area with some nice trees and shade not too far from where the Clamp gathering was held.

Unfortunately you also have those walls but you can try to get a better angle than I did in those shots.

@Access nice shots, do you remember where that was? I wasn't at the last AX so not too familiar with the layout of the LACC

My first full year at AX also, I believe the Clamp gathering last year was held in a shady area directly under an overhang on the West Hall building. If you go to the current gathering map:

then look at spot #2 and then follow it directly to the right (on the map) until you hit the West Hall building.

This general area, I think.

Also for Thursday only there is a new event next to AX called "MAX" that is located within Club Nokia. I have never been in Club Nokia so I have no idea how good or bad their indoor areas will be for photos, or how crowded they will be. But it's at least worth checking out. Club Nokia is in the LA Live area so it's easily within walking distance of AX. http://club2themax.com/main.php

Thanks for the location info i'll definitely have to check it out. So hard to determine the elevation of these places from a top down view. I checked out that website for MAX, im not even sure that its supposed to be about, but I check out the venue's website and it looks like a theater/club Seating Chart

I've located another park called Angels Knoll Its located kinda far from the CC, but it seems kinda closes to all the AX block hotels (about a block away from the Hilton). What does everyone think of places this far from the CC. Is it too far away or an acceptable distance to travel?

I think the close park is by the FDIM building. But do keep in mind if you going to walk there. The weather from the last year ax got up to about 92 to 94 in the sun and it was high 80 in the shade. Walking in that weather is not very nice. Just to let you there alot of place inside the LAC that are very good for pic.

Just my 2 cent.

Yeah, I'm concerned about the weather. I know it gets really hot down in LA during the summers. Is most photographing done inside the convention center? Or are there still a lot of people who are outside cosplaying as well?

You might have a use for this location too:
http://megaera.multiply.com/photos/album/39#photo=101

I think this was taken there :P

It's usually empty as it gets pretty hot when the sun is up, but you get all the lighting you want lol

This one's pretty cool too:

But both are pretty plain areas (if you're looking for more color) Lindsay plaza has some grass and shade, but i'm not sure how the crowd will be like there.

I'd say that most of the photographing is done inside the convention center (some people "claim" a corner and set up their equipment inside). If I remember correctly, there was a photographer who did shoots by a wall inside the hallway. But you'll see a loooooot of cosplayers outside the convention center even if it's hot
