River Song - Doctor Who Cosplay Help

I plan on cosplaying River Song for A-fest this year, but I need help with the dress from "Time of Angels." I've never had to make my own pattern before, and I know I'll have to do it with this one, so I could really use some tips. Here is a link to a picture of the dress. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_tnztg4TfAI...s5filming6.jpg

Any suggestions on how this can be done? Also, I'm on a tight budget, so the solution needs to be fairly cheap.

Thanks!

The dress is a very simple V-neck with a high waist, it looks like. Try using an existing V-neck pattern for the top and then adding the skirt and sleeves on.

Hi there! I just recently made this dress for my sister for a con. She is a college student and had a very tight budget and we were still able to pull it off rather well. Here is the costume completed...

The rest of the photos are here but there's alot of other Doctor who pics:

http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n...0Who/?start=40

We made the dress from the same pattern we made her Donna wedding dress out of. Butterrick 5462. We modified the waist line to be an inverted V and then put a seam down the middle so we could get the split. Also had to modify the back since it is a V on the pattern. It is such a good pattern for her though.

The glasses she got from eBay, the shoes she bought at Ross and painted them red, but you can get shoes on eBay for around $30. The gun she got from the dollar store, though we need to get her a better one.

Hope this helps!

The only recommendation when looking at JJ9437 dress is to gather the fabric the a shoulders and cuff to achieve more ripples but it pretty bang on!

We tried to get the sleeves more poofy but had run out fabric and btw this was the night before the con. Yes, I'm that person to wait last minute lol. I might go in and replace to sleeves one day.

I'm also on a tight budget. Lol. How much did the dress itself cost to make? And what fabric would you recommend?

Well the main black fabric I had for years and bought for a Harry Potter robe. There were 7 yards of it and we used every bit of it for this dress. It's just a very long dress and with the train there is alot of fabric used. Anyway, what I used was a satin back crepe. I bought it on sale for $3 a yard? Maybe? The sheer I got on a sales rack and was $4 total for 2 yards. The trim came on a spool at Hancocks and was $3 I think? So in total this dress cost in the end: $30. That would be my guess at least, but I honestly don't remember how much the crepe was, I just know how much I would be willing to pay for it.

As for recomended fabrics: crepes are great to work with and it was a please to make the dress out of it but honestly if you are on a budget I would recomend going to the fabric store and just seeing what they have on sale. As long as it's black and has a decent flow to it I would say that is okay. Just make sure that it is not a stretch fabric because you don't want to use a stretch with the sheer fabrics.

If you guess have any more questions, let me know.
