This thread really makes me want to make Samantha's dress. I have the doll (Nelly too) so it would be easier than just going off photots.
Well. This is awkward.

Hahaha - I loved American girl! I had Samantha and Felicity and always wanted to dress like them. I've done two of Samantha's outfits using the real dresses, since the costumes ran big and they way they are made they can fit an adult.
The Christmas dress is a size 12:
I just added the bow and petticoat. The length was a about right although the sleeves were just about an inch short.

However, Felicity's dresses are more form-fitting and aren't made for an adult with a chest, so I used a Simplicity pattern and modified it to make her blue XMas outfit:

To those of you who don't already know, Felicity's being archived. I was never much of a fan of her, but still...

On-topic, now I sort of want to cosplay from the series... although, considering that I can't exactly pass for a nine-year-old girl... sigh.

I LOVE American Girl. Samantha and Felicity were my favorites. Felicity books were the reasons I got A's on my colonial until back in 5th grade.

I am in love with Samantha's birthday dress and if I ever have the time, I'd love to make it.

Earlier this year, I cosplayed Josephina in her regular clothes at Megacon(pics in my dA gallery, link in the sig.) and now that I've seen this thread, I kinda want to cosplay some of her other outfits. Since I'm just now popping in this thread, how successful have some of your costumes been at cons? A handful of people recognized my Josephina and one person thought I was a tavern wench -_-

Next Con: ?????

Please don't shoot me for resurrecting this thread from a 2 year grave... But I was considering dressing as an American Girl doll for Halloween this year and got curious about how many others have cosplayed them... Have any of these posters or others debuted completed costumes?

Those sound glorious! I'd love to make Molly's Miss Victory dress or maybe one of Nelly's Irish dance dresses.

I just wanted to say that I dressed up as Samantha when I was younger. I had a dress in a similar style and I did my hair like hers.
