Yoko gurren lagen costume help
I found these great custom boots for her time skip outfit on ebay but they cost way too much. Like 110 bucks w s+h so I was thinking of buying a plain pair of white vinyl thigh highs and painting the flames on them. But I don't know if this can be done at all or if possible what kind of paint and technique(s). If you can help out it would be appreciated. Thank you.

i used plain white boots and outlined the flames in fine point sharpie, then painted them in with acrylics
worked pretty well, but you have to be really careful not to smudge anything. you can see the result in my gallery! ![]() |

Personally I like a good quality painter's tape to cover the boot and just leave the design uncovered then spray paint, since acrylics tend to show brushstrokes, however, I can't say I know if spraypaint takes to acrylic or not.

Oh man, cause her thigh high boots are driving me crazy. I can't even find any decently priced plain white boots to buy. I think the ones I were looking to buy were 70 bucks. A little cheaper then the custom made ones on ebay for like 110 bucks w shipping and handling. O.O
What is a good material for her marroon jacket? I see alot of people use pleather it looks like? I was thinking of using vinyl if I couldn't find pleather.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but here are two pairs of white boots from amiclubwear.com. It's made of suede but they're very cheap for such tall boots:

Thank you. I may go with those instead of what I was planning to get.

I don't know if you've already decided what to do, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents anyway.
For one of my costumes, I had to have black rubber boots with red both on top and bottom, and what I ended up doing was using painter's tape and newspaper to outline where I wanted the design and spraying it with a few layers of car paint. It was a bit messy, but that's just because I wasn't very careful. And besides, it's almost impossible to see my messups from picture-taking distance. If memory serves me, your boot design is a bit more complicated, but the method should work with a little patience. That is, if you haven't already bought boots ![]() |

I haven't yet. I'm just going to buy some plain white ones and paint them. I think I basically have every thing in check. I have to order half my costume the beginning of next month. I managed to find Yoko's jacket, and I'm getting the top and bottoms tailored to fit. Cause the large bikini top I got is too small and I don't want that much boob hanging out. lol

Alrighty. Well I wish you luck! And man, ditto on the bikini bit. I know in the anime they don't really fit her, but geez. I think I've only seen two cosplayers at cons who managed to get the costume to work that way... I don't know how they even moved.

Sorry to kind of ride your post but I'm a little confused on how to make the shorts for yoko. I was thinking an elastic waistband til I realized it would look bunchy. I heard somthing about a zipper on the side too which sounds like a good idea. any ideas?
Also Street Moda sells lots of awesome boots and with the coupon code... STREET20 you save 20% or use DB6954 for free shipping. Im not sure what they have for time skip yoko though. I did buy my pre-time skip boots from them. As for paint for the boots I have practically fallen in love with Jacquard Textile paint which works great for leather/pleather. You can get it from Jo-Anns in the fabric paint section. As for slippage I found a little somthing called "It Sticks!" its a body adhesive thats pretty awesome for keeping your socks where they need to be, keeping bandages on my kamina, and keeping my boobs from wandering XD. It's alright, it's what it's for. Personally I was thinking of adding a layer to the top of the shorts to get the gap in the top look. I guess the fabric would depend on what your shorts happened to be made of. And I'll have to look up that stick it stuff cause that wouls d be great for my boobs. O.o

Does any one know how to keep Yoko's hair sticks in place? Like they stay in place in my wig, but the actual sticks shift around and won't stay spread apart. They eventually shift right next to each other so I was wondering if any one knew how to solve this problem?

My Yoko timeskip boots:
http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2693436/ First I bought some plain white boots from electricboutique.com I cut the "zipper" then freehand outlined the flames with a water based marker. Then I used Angelus paint (especially made for shoes) in firetruck red to go over my outlines and fill in the flames. To make the oversized zipper pull I cut out craft foam and painted it silver. All and all, it wasn't very hard or time consuming. Good luck!
