Sewing is so boring.
To me at least. I really enjoy making designs and other such things, but now that it comes time to actually get those designs sewn on I'm really just dreading it, and procastinating so I don't have to do it until the last minute (bad idea, I know, but it's what I do).
I just don't want to do hours of sewing. Someone suggested an alternate, less permanent method which I'm serious considering just to avoid it. This is really just my own musing, but if you want to share your thoughts on tons of sewing work I'll be glad to hear them. |

Although now Im just sewing for cosplay for Masqu, cosplay just for funsies I thrift XD

I always stock up on doujin cds or rent videos before sitting down to a big sewing or prop-making project. It helps to pass the time more in a more enjoyable way and helps me find the time to do two things I rarely find the time to do otherwise ~ watch anime/listen to music and sew.

Good music and something interesting to look at once in a while as a quick break keeps the fun levels up!It's mostly just the troubleshooting part of sewing that slows me down, once I get frustrated trying to solve a problem I tend to put the sewing aside for another day!! :\ |

i can only sew in cosplay gathering groups cause when i'm by myself in my house there's too many game, anime, manga distrations. i live in denver, but we usually gather in evergreen, which is a ways away a bit, so getting away to someplace far away makes the need a whole lot greater.

I love sewing so I don't have that problem, but I absolutely can't stand seam ripping or having to do anything over, sometimes I get so stressed I'll chuck whatever it is across the room (if it won't break) and leave it for another day >_<!

I would have to have music in the background and references to the character on the screen...i try to get lost in the "man its gonna be SO awesome finally wearing this costume O__o" mode ...if its a game character i'll play the game in between a little bit too..i try to keep the spirit of it all alive
its hard though sometimes XD i'll browse online thinking that maybe a commissioned or bought costume might look better than my own craftsmanship since my hand sewing skills are pretty crappy...all in all though i got to finish the costume i was working on and even though its probably not the best you'll see in the world im quite happy and proud i got to finish it ![]()

See this is not a problem for me, for I order all my costumes
mwuahahaha. -ahem- but I imagine that the phrase "too much of a good thing" applies for sewing cosplays as well. If you can't sit down for 6 hours and sew a single thing then only go for 1 at a time. Or however long you can keep interested in it. I love drawing more than breathing, but I'll go months without making anything at all. Sometimes I won't even be able to LOOK at a pencil without feeling queasy! Then one day I suddenly get the inspiration and need to draw and I just cant stop stop. Imagine if you have 5 months until a convention and did the bare minimum of 1 hour every week. You'd be done well in advance without having overdone yourself.

Only in this case it's having a shirt done, then flipping up the edge of the fabric only to realize the sleeve has now been sewn to the collar. 8D Same exact feeling I tell you. Other than that, i agreee that music and movies help. <3 Especially musical movies, like Aladdin of course, because that's both in one!

I don't happen to mind the sewing at all, I find myself hating the cutting part. Cutting out patterns, and fabric is such a drag, and because of this it always takes me so long to start a costume. Once it's all cut out, it comes together quite fast.

Agreed. Cutting is the worst. I actually enjoy the construction.
Recently I've been making a new kimono out of some silk I found cheap online. It's so slippery that just cutting a straight line takes an hour of careful pinning, also involving paper underneath. And it's too strong to rip in the direction I most have to cut. *facepalm* |

Personally, I love sewing. I don't use patterns, which I need to learn to use actually. But I usually have my Disney movies I've seen a zillion times playing in the background while I'm sewing. I actually prefer doing stuff by hand because I have more control, but seam work is done with my mother's machine that has some kind of vendetta against me.

You know, it's kind of difficult to watch anime with subtitles and sew at the same time because you have to keep looking up to read the dialogue yet you alsohave to look at what you're sewing. That seriously made my eyes hurt.
