EVA foam, PVC foam, Polystyrene foam, Rigid PVC board, and others. If I knew the strengths and weaknesses of each I would have a much easier time getting started.

Also if someone responds with a post explaining the differences please point out any other armor methods you know of that I may not have come across yet.
I know I've done a rundown on materials and there draw backs. I think on this thread. Try searching for my post on this thread.

How in he world?
Anyone know what that's called? I plan on making the underskirt 9the darker color) separate, then the longer spiky looking white parts over that sewn to the waistband, then making the top overlap that as well as have the front have that center spik looking piece..Any ides on tutorials on something like this kind of skirt?

I also don't know how to make a top like that. I've made male tops, but nothing with breast cups like that..I want to make it where the darker under part is just sewn around the edges and has small straps so the top fits much like a camisole (but will be tight with a zipper on the back, because that's what the back it like), except it'll be longer with those overlapping parts..

Next is a cape. I am already making my Fate Testarossa cosplay..
Something along the lines of this cape:
http://animehistory.files.wordpress....ff80e6_web.jpg
It's kind of a fan art looking pic so they exaggerated the collar a little, but yea, a cape that clasps in the front, and has a standing collar

Anyway thanks..
Thank you for the picture. The first dress looks to be three layers. Start with these patterns: Simplicity 1553, 2067, 4046. It's where I would start. Try Googling Dracula Cape. There is also Simplicity 5927, but it's a children's pattern.

Any help would be most appreciated... thanks!

Here is a place to start. I've also here there is way to link a pedometer so you make sound effects when you walk, but I haven't found it yet.

Simplicity has costumes that can be made over. examples include but aren't limited to Simplicity 5386, 1552, 1732, 4083, and 4923. As for the hardware, try steampunk books and the steampunk thread. Also try the props, accessories, and armor forum. Thanks for the picture.

So I plan on going as Nabooru for LoZ, and I don't even know what to do. I wanna try to make most of it, but I've never 'made' a costume before. Any suggestion?

You could try using a pattern for princess Jasmine pants or something similar.
I found this :http://sewing.patternreview.com/patterns/18452

For her top, you could simply use a large band of fabric. The patterns on it can be made with bias tape.
For her jewelry and gems you could try crafting foam and resin casting. Crafting foam would be good for her braceletes and such. Resin casting would work nicely for her gems.

Her gloves could be simply pink opera length gloves with the fingers cut off and buttons sewn up the sides.

Her shoes could be slip on shoes with a cover on them to look like Arabian slippers.

Hope this helped

Cloud Hair

Hey guys, I'm going to go as cloud from final fantasy vii for Halloween, and have no idea how to do hair, and i don't want to use a wig. I don't have any experience, i don't even know how long my hair should be (my hair is really long, so I can cut it to the right length though). Thanx in advance!

This might help. http://sewing.about.com/od/aprons/tp...ngpatterns.htm Also try looking at your local library, retro crafts, holiday crafts, home décor and quick/weekend sewing project books.

There are several companies out there that do harem or bellydance garb. Simplicity and Folkwear patterns come to mind. If Simplicity has one then McCall's will too. I agree with the EVA foam suggestion. The jewels can be done several ways other then resin. Glycerin Soap, Cellophane, and Scupley painted with nail polish all come to mind. For a tube top/ halter top pattern you might have to look though the bathing suit sections.

Have you tried looking in the wig styling section. A lot of the styling hints there can be applied to regular hair.

There tutorial on styling a high ponytail and putting your hair up might help. To keep the wig in place spirit gum or polygrip can help.

I know this is late, but I found the post I mentioned earlier. Here is the basics: "I'm new at this myself, but here are a few things that you might use. Wood - remember to keep it light weight. Also depending on the detail you would have to invest in tools. The good part is that you can by premade shapes. Check out your local hobby store. I know my Hobby Lobby has hearts in raw wood. Also premade shapes can be altered. EVA foam - this is the stuff that is used in playmats, foam vizors, flip flops, foam dice etc. They can be shaped to a point. Anything too big and thin would need support. But it's pretty strudy. Insulation Foam and Extruded Polystyrene - I don't know much about these but I believe it's toxc so watch out. I imagine they can be difficult to work with. Polymere clay - sculpey, model magic, etc. This is usually used to make jewerly. I have recently used it to make a few brooches and the handle for a dagger. It is sturdy but also fragile. In other words don't spike it, it won't bounce. Treat it like ceramic but not fine china. Resin - It can be difficult to work with. It is toxic. Paper clay - is a mix between polymere clay and papier mache. It's sturdier then paper mache and can be made into alot of stuff. However, it can shrink when dry, can't be molded too thick, and is difficult to smooth. I've used it to make mask. I've seen it used to make statues etc."

You will probably have to look at general tutorials. There is one on this sub forum and a bunch in the props etc. sub forum.

You'll have to look through patterns and find some you can alter. Simplicity, McCall's etc. will have what you need. Boleros can best be altered for the tops and short gym shorts or swimsuit bottoms for the bottoms. Spirit gum or similar would also be good.

Hello,

I'm new here and I'm interested in making the sarong skirt Princess Kida wears. Does anyone have any pointers or a design on how to cut the shapes and put them together. This is my first time making a costume, sorry if I sound so noobish. A tutorial would be really lovely. Thank you!
