My review of sakura costumes.
Sakura Costumes offered me to make a xenomorph costume/suit for the price of 2500 euro including tax & shipping to Europe. The costume has multiple special effects that i required and were implemented. I would like to rate the company based on multiple factors.
Communicating with sakura costumes is fast and very friendly. They even offer skype video calls to show your costume/prop. However their English is not the best because their main launguage is spanish, so be very clear at commisioning with them to get what you want exactly. I had some miscommunications with them that were unfortunate but still everything turned out Ok. They are also very friendly and its a pleasure talking to them.
Shipping was good and fast, although it was pretty nervous for me because the amount of money involved. They include a tracking code. Packaging was done OK. Not the best, but it was still pretty good.
The package was opened by customs though, but thats not anyone's fault.
The costume itself: 7.5/10
A very lovely eye for detail, however the costume is not fully tested in my opinion.
Multiple parts where not great upon arrival. The "S" wiggling tail behind me kept falling to the left due to its weight. While the tail looks great, i do want to keep it upright. i tried to repair it and was not able to.
The pump system to let water drip from the teeth had a leaking water pump. This was because the water tube from the pump was pushing the pump down, out of the water tank. I had to drill a new hole in the casing of the pump, and put some pressure below the pump to push the pump up into the hole of the water tank, and now the issue seems solved.
The water pump is activated by a button switch, wich requires quite some force from my thumb to activate, will probaly have to replace that.
The system to pull a rope to let the second mouth of the xenomorph eject broke after about 5 uses. This was pretty disappointing and while i had a temporary fix, it broke again. Sakura Costumes told me what parts to get to repair it wich was again fairly cheap, so i cant complain too much about that.
The "socks" of the costume had some nails of it breaking. I kind of saw that coming, because i asked when i saw pictures of it, if that would be sturdy enough. They answered that its wonderflex and will not break. But it broke in my first test run in the costume, wich was walking for about 1km.
Finally i also didn't like the back tentacles, they look too much the same and not from any photo or film.
Besides those issueses, the costume looks pretty badass and has a pretty good eye for detail.
However i do want to note the damage is probaly mostly caused by shipping or customs and not sakura costumes themselfs. The clear sign of damage at shipping or customs is the head.
After service: 7/10
They were skyping with me and offered me help with repairing certain parts. I told them i will probaly be able to fix alot of things with my 3d printer, but I asked if they could help making shoes because thats just not possible with a 3d printer. I asked this 3 days ago, and unfortunatly now not received a reply back. They do want to help but i fear that they do not want to offer help with damages if it costs them money...
I am not sure what i will ask them or send them in a followup, because my 3d printer works non stop to make a new tail, to repair the second mouth and i need to let them or someone else make my new shoes or socks for the costume that wont break. I do know that i feel not 100% satisfied. More like 80%.
Photo's of the costume (not including the newly made tail by them wich caused problems)
