Very useful, and I'll be keeping it in mind. However, often at conventions when people ask for pictures, they seem to want to get it over with as quickly as possible, and I find myself fixing dead hands or what-have-you after they've already taken the picture. XP

Sewing commissions are on hold, but I still do custom pattern-drafting. PM for details.

I have some posing tips for conventions on my site.
http://jiajem.com/conpose.html

I've found that posing for planned photoshoots and posing for random con photos are two different beasts. It's a little wordy, but I hope it helps!

@Garen - Ask for a retake if you're somewhat unhappy with how it turned out, I take pictures myself and I always think I'm bothering folks by stopping them asking for pictures (Even if they're there for that XD). So I just snap my shots as quick as I can manage using my (screwy) judgement for position, light and such, talk for a bit, and scurry on my way like I was bothering the beejesus out of someone. But I know I'd be glad to retake shots, chances are some might be too

@Jia Jem - Love that tutorial, though I'm not sure if all that advice applies to guys --- I sure will pay some note to that advice for future endeavors, right now I just mimic limited character poses XD

Nice tutorial XD

Hm, if one has a large torso and slim legs and broad shoulders (female)
How should she pose?

Should she stand 3/4 and push her hips towards the camera a bit? or should she pull her shoulders back and lean towards the camera?

Thank you for this tutorial! I've always been self-conscious while in cosplay, so I'll take note of this.

I found this thread forever ago but am revisiting it and decided I might as well comment. :>

I'm really glad you made this tutorial. Luckily for me, my first time cosplaying I was with a friend and we managed to come up with some good poses, but with other cosplays I've had some issues XD' Like... when I came back from a con and the only pictures I could find of myself I looked like a complete fatty because I'd turned my chin down a bit too far and my outfit was just loose enough that when I posed a certain way my waist kind of disappeared. XD'

But! I now know my lesson, and I will pose in mirrors before I go to the con. But things like props and sitting poses--those are a great help for me. I wouldn't put it past me to make some dorky mistake like turning my props the wrong way around >3>

*o* Thank you SO MUCH! D I officially cosplayed for the first time this year, and in every picture I saw on youtube or in my own pictures I looked as stiff as a board! This has really helped me learn something for my next con ^^
