How to make large folding wings?

so, my reason? Articuno gijinka (human form) cosplay. i don't have a design yet, but my top priority are the wings. Articuno is a blue ice-type legendary bird that premiered in the "Pokémon 2000" movie.
Reference:

The whole idea just screams for grand wings, and thus, that is my plan! make a pair of folding, giant wings mounted on my back. however... few people seem to want to share how to make such wings.

Example/Goal: Angel Wing No.1 - B > two lift points <
http://community-2.webtv.net/wingsan...mes/index.html

I like how the above wings come to a "Y" instead of just a "T" (if that makes sense?) and that's what i aim to accomplish. The frame makes sense to me, but what i can't figure out is how the wings are opened. is it a motor? a string? i just can't tell! does anyone have any idea?? would it be less expensive to just buy that frame ($150 + $35 shipping)

They must have increased the cost of those frames; I bought them for $95 plus shipping (from the same guys), and they work on a sort of scissor hinge. The only con to the wings is that it's a bit awkward to get them up initially (the whole frame lifts up and away from your body due to the force required to push "up"--so you have to tie the waist strap pretty tightly to prevent that). I made my own covers for them; it's not difficult to do, just time consuming. I think it's worth the cost since they're pretty heavy duty and can be covered with all sorts of covers for different characters.

**edit** Ahhh, I see now. It has an increased wingspan. I bought the normal adult pair--the wingspan is pretty big on those too, btw, and they weigh less. Remember that however long the wingspan is, it will be similarly long when you fold them behind you to walk through doors.

unless you have the tools to create and build the wings on your own you might actually want to consider the wing base they have. $200 for shipping and the base part isnt bad. it cost me about $500 for my Cain wings but that's feathers included....and 6 wings *shrug* Abel's wings were not as expensive but you go through a LOT of trial and error.

moving wings are NOT cheep, not good ones at least. so for what they are charging is DAMNED Good.... I would make my own harness though. usually over the shoulders and about the waist with a 2" nylon webbing is a good idea [think seat belt]

Probably not what you're looking for but...

Here's one of my designs:
http://www.DarkCloudInc.org/WingDesi...1007271500.zip

The password is:
DarkCloudInc.org

You can open it in GIMP [gimp.org] if you don't have photoshop as it was designed in layers to simulate a three-dimensional build. In the design, the backing and rails as well as the guiding pegs are wood. The segments can be either wooden dowels or PVC. The stopper could either be screws or, again, wooden pegs.

Now when the string is pulled, it pulls the segments upward and stops at when the stopper is reached as illustrated in wingDesign_RailSystem_Extended__201007271205.psd. At the very same time, as the segment extends, the string attached to the upper segment is pulled tight and raises the upper segment skywards. When the string pulling the lower segment is released, the weight of the frame pulls both the upper segment and lower segment down.

Granted, this movement is almost unnatural but then so is a whole lot of creatures and beings that exist in the animation and comic world. However, the final effect of the moving wings is the Y shape in which you're looking for.
