International Cosplay Day?

I just got an invite on facebook for an international cosplay day, with apparently thousands of people already attending. The basic point is on August 27, you go out in cosplay. Simple as that. I want to know how many here are planning to do this now that they know about it?

I think it's a fun idea, and it'll help find other cosplayers from the area that's for sure! ^^

In some cultures, public cosplay is either incredibly rude or against the law (due to religious-law or public-performance restrictions). So I'm not sure how "international" an event like that can really be ^^;;;

This wouldn't fly in Japan, ironically enough. Everyone in the cosplay community would immediately label you an obnoxious rabble rouser for wearing your costume outside of an established event.

Sounds like fun if you're in a place you can get away with it, though.

I have a show with my dance company that evening so I can't wear cosplay to that, but if I go anywhere during the day I'd like to participate. It sounds like fun and it'd be interesting if I happened to run into any other cosplayers in my area. (:

Same.

To be honest, I doubt I'd ever cosplay in public for something like an international cosplay day. I'd probably do something to "honor it" (for a lack of a better term), but wearing cosplay to whatever I'm doing/wherever I'm doing? No thanks. Unless something was on that day, like a cosplay event like a convention or a shoot.

It'd be amusing to see though, that's for sure.

@Kiratsukai: Yeah I understand. So the name really doesn't fit it huh? xD;; But I'm sure that alot of people can still enjoy it. It does sound like fun after all, and I'm sure that maybe some people from atleast some different countries can enjoy it...atleast hopefully... but like I said I only got an invite for it;; xD

@Caisse: lol Gotcha xD I'll be going to a convention the day after the 27th, so I see it as a head start xD haha

@Omicaiah: (hope I got the name right, sorry if I messed it up though) That's the same thing I'm hoping for. It would be cool to find some other cosplayers in the area through that ^^

@Kyomi:yeah I wouldn't say...going to work or school in a cosplay would be very appropriate. But people would probably think it fun to gather together with friends (especially as a last huzzah before school starts up for some people) But watching can also be fun haha

I would, but something tells me going out in cosplay not at Otakon in Baltimore might be a bad idea! Well, some areas, that is.

Buzzkill much?

Well, "international" doesn't really mean "every nation on Earth," so it could still work. Nevertheless, I believe that most areas/cultures would allow something like that. The word about Cosplay Day should definitely be spread throughout the anime world!

Sorry *shrug*

But it is the truth. Not everyone finds public cosplay acceptable. It's probably not the best way to promote international warmfuzzies...

This sounds exciting~ but I don't think i can do it as I have class that day and lab~ Probably not the best environment to cosplay. XD Nonetheless~ I will "honor it" as well. ^^

Oh found it. They don't have an event setup to join into though. So my own Facebook doesn't tell others I'm going to it?

Hmm, sounds cool.
But I don't think anyone here in the polarbear country (read: Finland. lol) knows about it...

Well, I can see if I have something I could put on myself for honoring the day, like some accessories from a cosplay or something... lol. *imagines myself bolting to school with bright orange hair á la Ichigo Kurosaki* xDDD
Now that would get some stares... oh well, I know that some people at my school follows Bleach at least, so I wouldn't look like a foreign wtf-thing to everyone. lol

But yeah, something that will not stick out as much... maybe wearing geta/zori and having my anime schoolbag would do the trick?
