I am making a Soi Fon costume and I need a little bit of help. I already have the hakama made, the problem is that I want to not only have the battle outfit but the regular captains uniform. I was thinking that I could sew the sleeves directly on to the haori or I could make tear of sleeves from the normal battle uniform.

my biggest problem is I have no idea how to even begin with the top, can someone give me a little help. I am pretty good at sewing so all I really need are the size and shape for the pieces and how many pieces, I made the hakama without a pattern just a good idea of what I needed to do.

Someone please help me!

I am Rather Confused by your Question O.O

Soi Fong Tops Are two different Styles (well three but I rather not spoil it for people whom are reading the manga) One I call the Halter top Which leaves the Exposed Back.like this;

The other is a Haori Which most of the other captains wear (And Most of the Shinigami at that note)

You could get a long sleeved Haori, maybe.. possibly? lol. I don't know why but most of the Haori's are short sleeved, but I have a long sleeved Byakuya one. So if you got the long sleeved, it would just cover up your arms anyway, and you could still wear the battle outfit with it. (I think I kinda get what your asking).

But as far as sewing goes, I can't really help. I fail at that :P

The long sleeves are usually for the Captains that have been part of the 13 squads longer While the short sleeves is for the more 'recent ones'. For example, Byakuya is suppose to have a short sleeves one since he became a Captain 50 years prior to the series while those who have been Captains before the 50 years prior, such as Juushiro, has long sleeves.

I know that in the musicals, she has the halter top on like normal, and then a haori with the kimono top's sleeves sewn on the inside. I wouldn't advise a long-sleeved haori, as only a few captains wear those.

I was thinking about attaching the black sleeves to the haori so I could take it off and have the halter top on

My question is really how do I make that halter top, because I honestly have been trying for about a month and I cant figure it out!

i'm actually making the same costume. The concept of the halter top and the bottom part is one long piece of cloth. and everything else just comes together. I'm actually trying to make this tonight so i'll see how it goes.

Why not use the pattern and then simply cut down the sides and sew the white fabric into the pieces that cross the chest? Then sew the parts you cut out into the haori overcoat.

i would probably just make the haori with black sleeves. the front of the halter looks like a regular kimono when the haori is worn

to make that halter, you can just modify a kimono pattern. cut out the sleeve and shoulder areas according to how much skin you want to show and make the collar as usual
