Help with cat tails?
Ok folks, I'm working on an original design pirate catgirl costume, and I would like my tail to do this:
http://www.angelicstar.net/cos-image...al/surreal.jpg Basically, stick up. Before I email Yaya and shake her down for info on how she did it, does anyone have any experience in this realm? thankies

you could always use some wires and then bend them the way you like them

Hehe well, I get that there are wires involved ^_~ Serves me right for not being specific. I mean, where are they attached? It won't just stand up like that on it's own, unless there is some kind of base or something

Ok, I have an idea. Shape the wire, put the clothe on it, and then ductape it to your body. Ok maybe that wasn't the most helpful idea. But when you do find out ( I am guessing you are going to have to ask Yaya) tell me, cause I want to do a cat tail for my Felicia costume! Oops, and you were the one supposed to be getting the help here ^_^.

My guess would be using some wire in the tail, and then using some invisible thread between the back of the costume and the tail. In addition, use some heavy reenforcement at the base of the tail area so that the weight of the tail doesn't pull it apart.

Secure the cat tail to some sort of belt and cut a hole in the body suit. Wear the belt underneath the body suit and have the tail stick out through the back where you cut the hole.

The whole trick is leverage and balance. The biggest problem when people attach tails to belts or braces, is that the tail pulls down away from the body. Like this: |/~ (it's a sideview...the vertical line is your back and the slash is the belt, the squiggle the tail)
You have to put an insert of foam or stuffing in the belt to force it to either go like |\~ or like ||~ That helps to compensate for the pull. The next step is to decide how high your tail will arch. For one like hers, you need a lightweight tube and wires run through it. But you don't have to run the wire all the way to the end of the tail... The final downward curve should have enough weight in it that if you stop the wire just at the top of the curve, gravity will do the rest. Look at the tails in my gallery and hopefully that will make a little more sense. They measure four feet each or longer. The twists make them look shorter though... >^-^< I swear I will put up a tutorial before too long...
