Shiny and squeaky boots!

Is this the right forum? D:

Well, I have these boots that I found somewhere in the back of my closet and I thought it was PERFECT for one of my cosplays.

But it's one of the squeaky/plasticy type of boots that I got from Hot Topic. o.o; I've never worn them because they squeak from rubbing against each other. I can even see my reflection in them when the light shines right.

Is there any way I can reduce the "shininess"? I can already tell they'll show up bad in photos with flash or the general cameras people use nowadays. D:

I'd also like to find a way to stop the squeaking. ;w; Is there no way?

Squeaking pretty much is going to stay until you've broken them in. Shine too, will usually stay unless you actually wear them around and scuff them up. But, I have heard of a few ways to dull shine. Buffing with a very fine sandpaper, and I've actually heard rubbing them with milk, may help.

So that means I have to wear them, huh? @_@ My only problem is they don't look good on me and I could only pass when I'm in cosplay. xP Sandpaper? D: I could try that. If I leave them out in the rain, would that just damage them? o.o Because I leave my bike outside all the time, it used to have a shine, but now it's just dull looking. :B

What are they made of? If they're waterproof, chances are they'd be okay. But I still don't recommmend it. Even if the top material will repel water, the laces and insoles can rot or mould if you leave it in the rain. And I think that rainwater de-shinifying works by the rainwater basically staining the fabric by dripping onto it unevenly and not getting wiped off after. Unless you polish it up with a cloth after, it looks a bit dulled. I'd still give wiping some milk onto them a shot. It's cheap, so if it doesnt work, you won't have wasted more than maybe a cup of milk.
And for the breaking them in, you can just wear them around the house. And manipulating them with your hand (bending the toes and pushing on the ankle fabric and such to move it around) can help.

When I was in school, we weren't allowed to have shoes that squeaked on the floorboards. To prevent from getting into trouble, we rubbed the any combination of the following on the soles of the shoes: Talcum/baby powder, sugar or salt water (this leaves water marks tho), milk (also stains the soles strangely) or proper shoe polish (not the liquid one from a bottle).
Any of these could work on the body of the shoe; but I've never tried it =)

I'm not sure what they're made of. 8( I checked before I made the thread, but didn't find anything. And I'll try the milk! 83 And thanks for the tip about breaking them in. Baby powder? O: Ahh. I don't think I'd like water marks though. xD

Anyway, thanks for the feedback! I'll try it out. :3
