Miku project diva angel wings

i know there is a ton of threads on wings, (and i looked through them all, and ive already made feather wings before but this is different), i plan to cosplay miku hatsune from the vocaloid video game project diva and im having a hard time thinking of how to make her wings:

http://www.cosplay.com/showpost.php?...&postcount=459
scroll down till you see the pic labeled angel (third pic down)

what should i make her wings out of? feathers is obviously out, and i dont think craft foam would give me the look i want (but might have to be a last resort) i was thinking of plastic styrene sheets, but would that work? if so what thickness do you think i would need it at and where could i buy some? also how would i paint it to keep that transparent look to it? would gallery glass paint work?

thank you!

I'd actually look into stiffened felt. Styrene has a very smooth, plastic-y look to it, but the ref picture looks more like clothing.

I think foam would actually work well for this, you could paint the edge darker and paint on the shading easily enough. Then do the darker spirals as a second layer.
Good example;

Example of shading possibilities (namely wing tip);

^ I agree.

The wings are a stiff and they are not feather like... I think foam would be a good choice in making the wings.

At Michaels they do sell rolls of the foam sheets, but it's in black... only down side.

I think your best bet would be to order a large sheet online if you aren't able to find what you need locally. You could glue several pieces together, but you'd see the seam line.
