Dr. Doom ARMOR build
just thought I'd post this here...
I wanted to do Dr Doom for a long time. finally i decided that i would put together the armor first. not really knowing where to start first, i did the guantlets. but how would i make a pair of gauntlets that looked cool? I came up with a plan to use a pair of leather costume gloves i dont use anymore for the base. then i found a big strip of 6 inch aluminum flashing in my garage and went to work. 2 days later, i had these ![]() now, i had the prototype and was satisfied, but aluminum flashing is too weak to use by itself so i thought hmmmm, maybe i should wrap these peices in plastic somehow, since they are already made. Enter Wonderflex. (WF) I purchased a Sq Yard of it from Dazian.com and it was great stuff! I simply used a heat gun (on low heat) and wrapped the WF around the edges and pressed out the wrinkles with my fingers (Use leather gloves). after wrapping the peices, they held there shapes great! ![]() I was at Micheals, and randomly grabbed some plastic mesh. i needed something for the forearms that would bend and move with the Wonderflex, and as my wife pointed out, there only 40cents a peice so if I didnt use them, no biggie. well, i used them, and they worked great!, i did the forearms and shoulder armor with them. ![]() I cut out the shapes of the forearms, and just wrapped WF around one end, then slowly went to the other and in about an hour I had this - ![]() So I did the same thing for the Shoulder Armor, then used a cheap pair of halloween plastic Roman leg Guards and wrapped the WF around those, and then used a long thick strip of WF to join them together. So then i gave them about 3 layers of Primer (Rustoleum Automobile Primer) each. now there ready to be sanded and painted. (waiting on the paint job to buy the mask and get a cheap grey spandex undersuit. ![]() Wonderflex and garage handy materials are great, I made this for $60 after sanding and painting (I used Rustoleum Engine Enamel in Cold Cast Iron color) I am done with the armor! i will add sticky back velcro to the forearms, and legs - everything else is solid peices, so i will implement the T-base system to hang the shoulders (how you mount stormtrooper armor) ![]() Last edited by Zombie Hadouken : 10-06-2010 at 10:08 PM. |
