Props Allowed Question

Sorry i forgot to ask this acouple days ago. I'm doing a cosplay Takashi from high school of the dead and he wields a wooden baseball bat vs zombies. is a wooden baseball bat allowed as a prop, or at least as a prop in the photo suite? i think keyblades, sephiroths sword, clouds swords from final fantasy and kingdom hearts can do more damage then wooden baseball bat, but figured id ask. it is black colored but wood.

Personal opinion here: I don't personally see anything in the Weapons Policy that would discourage the bringing of a baseball bat... just so long as you aren't swinging it around like one or beating people senselessly. Just bring it by the AMS desk to get peace-bonded.

A real baseball bat is not allowed because it is classified as a weapon.

Just want to clarify.

Per the Weapons Policy:

Quote:
4. Wooden weapons that are allowed include, but are not limited to staffs, walking sticks, bokken, and other wooden swords.
If it were metal, that would be one thing. But just as wooden swords, keyblades, and staves are allowed, a wooden bat is no different. That's the official ruling.

Again.. a real baseball bat IS classified as a weapon, therefore not allowed. Nekocon has stated this bluntly. You're free to make it out of cardboard though. You can contact ams@nekocon.com to clarify.

EDIT:
And yes, a wooden baseball bat is what Nekocon stated as not allowed.

EDIT EDIT:
I'm not sure how they'd take foam or a plastic bat, but you can try the email and ask about it. There are stores around like Sports Authority, Target, etc that you can probably find what you need.

Security of nekocon just emailed me and said they would allow my wooden baseball bat. Also just like helmet rule was reversed last year. Convention center is on private property and therefor do not go by VA state laws like masks, bats, and stuff. Rules are governed by work between convention center and the convention.

Okay then. I was just going by what Nekocon themselves had stated.

On the note about the Masks. Good, my HUGE pumpkin head will suck to take off every time I go into a dealer's room and put it on for photos.

This I like. Although, I do understand it from both sides.

you still cant have masks or helmets in dealer room, they only changed rule of no helmets or masked allowed in the con in general to that you only have to take it off in the dealers rooom.

yes they dont want people with their faces coverd that can run off with goods.
and if a staffer asks you to remove it, do it, unless you want to leave the con because thats what will happen if you dont take it off.
anything that obstructs your view they can have you remove... if you look like you can make it around the con without tripping and killing someone then your fine!

Jason(princedraco) i thought you learned your lesson at AMA (im kidding) I hope you bat is ok for them... i think its fine like the others said as long as you dont beat people up with it.

I triple checked before my last post with the head of AMS... He and I agreed that a wooden bat is no more a "weapon" than something like a sword or keyblade. It may not have been so in past years, but that's what we decided for this year. Plus, bats are not just weapons - there are baseball themed anime and such.

As for the mask thing, they are still not allowed in areas of the con like the Dealers Room and Art show.

Thank you for the great info

Now if i put fake blood on the bat to look like i hit a zombie, would that be a problem, or can bats only be clean and fully normal.
