So I decided to re-do my Sailor Moon Skirt. Normally I used cotton for the skirts but whatever fabric i am using now isn't looking the way I wanted so I am going to gather it. I think that will make it fuller.

@Akane;

I had the same issue with one of my friends saying she wants to do X23 (no offense to her, but I'd make a better one) and I was going to do X23 for San Diego Comicon possibly. But now she's not doing it... But I totally get that feeling and where you are coming from!

@Chiloves;
YAY! There are actually some canadian cosplayers I talk to on Facebook. :} They go to Sakura Con as well.
One lives in Calgary.

^She did Princess Serenity last year.

So, I decided I'm going to pleat my skirt to give it more volume. Loose pleats. Otherwise it just falls straight, and I don't like it. ><" (Plus 3 yards is a LOT of fabric to have just hang)

@ Amidoji: I think I can do that, I'll still need to find a hotel to stay. So thank you for wanting to help me, please do check your PM, and e-mail me sometime and we can discuss more about getting to and from Sakura con.

@tarinalove: Wow! I can't believe it! Yes, I know Smarebear. She's a pretty amazing person, she actually helped create Usagi's school uniform shirt for me. I'm so grateful for her and her help to make this part of my cosplay.

Thank you again everyone wanting for supporting me, this encouragement only makes me want to work harder to go to Sakura con.

Finished my skirt. I hate how it looks gathered. Going to redo it again.

Maybe try gathering the sides, but leave the front, where it will be exposed, smooth?

I ended up pleating it again and I'm much happier with it. Just had to keep working at it but got it in the end.

Well, I was going to make my bows today, but I soon found out that sewing isn't as easy as I thought it was going to be. So, I just spent all day figuring out how to use the machine and practicing how to sew in a straight line. But, I am now able to do that without jamming the machine!!! Yay me!

Great news Fabulousity! I can completely relate, I'm still an utter noob and sometimes have trouble with a straight line. The next step is figuring out how to finish off the ends by going backwards and then forwards again without jamming the machine, also something I still have trouble with occasionally. ^_^;

Yeah, I tried to backstitch yesterday, but every time i did, the fabric got all bunched up. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I'm using cotton to make my collar and skirt - how do I go about making the skirt? Does anyone have tutorial link I could go off?

Fabulousity, my first instinct is that you're not holding the fabric correctly when you're back stitching (ah, that's what it's called). I'm still trying to figure out the correct way to hold it myself so I can't be of much help other than to go slow and try to figure out the best way of holding the fabric so that it doesn't get away from you.

Ainamael, try checking out this thread: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=121627 Hope it helps!

Okay, thanks! I'll keep practicing, and maybe tomorrow I'll know what I'm doing enough to at least make a practice bow.

EDIT: What do you think of using this for my hip roll filling? Would it be big enough? Too big?

Fabulosity, also make sure you are not stitching off the edge of the fabric. Leave some space in front of the needle when you start to backstitch and off the dogs so your fabric does not get sucked down into the bobbin area. If you go too far, just cut the threads and knot them by hand.

Also, dont pull or push the fabric. The machine does that for you.

The dogs are the pair of ridged pieces under the fabric that move the fabric through the machine. Know what I mean?

@earth;
your links are broken.

well i ordered a chibiusa wig before my power went out and internet connection died. But it is gonna get here after aki con so i guess it will be another cosplay for me. but so happy i ordered it! Now i can finish my small lady. Pleated the skirt and pinned it to the main dress. Need my mom to attach snaps. Started working with chiffon but the fabric is super slippery and frustrating. Got a new iron so hopefully it will be easier to work with! So i guess i am halfway finished with it! Hopefully the end product satisifies me.
