Aw, they look awesome, I can't wait until the time comes closer when I can buy my blue contacts for my Sailor moon (and a non Sailor Moon cosplay!)
Aw don't worry, as long as you keep the contacts in solution they'll be fine. Also, a lot of people do that with their contact lenses, try them on :P

Okay, I'm a sewing noob, but if someone explains something to me, I can pretty much do it. Learn as I go.
Anyway, I'm having trouble with the leotard for my Super Sailor Moon costume. I want to double up on the lycra, add an underbust seam, put an invisible zipper in the back, and make an adjustable crotch so I can go to the bathroom. How do I go about doing all of this? Thanks for any help! : )

i doubled up as well w/o it will look see throw most of the time. you just have to make two each piece of the leotard then sew it in a way were u can flip the seams in. i had a couple of tries with this part myself so make sure u have a seam ripper handy lol. the zipper, i guess if your pattern doesn't already incorporate it make the leotard a little wider and cut down the back to where you want the zipper to go. i would do the same with the crotch, cut down more then you need so you can add snaps. just keep this in mind, its a lot easier to take something in than to take something out.
everyone else feel free to expand, I'm not always the bast at explaining.

Added the bias tape to my collar, it got really ugly, I may have to remake it... But I don't feel like remaking it at all.... Now I just have to add that line under the chest on the leotard. And add laces to my boots! xD And make the skirt. God, this has to be ready on Mardi Gras!

I tack stitched very thin White ribbon trim on for my stripes on Mars collar. But when I make Pluto's cos I will just glue the ribbon trim on with fabric glue instead..I have glued ribbon stripes on another costume and it works a lot neater, no puckering and fast.

If you're using lycra in the leotard you wouldn't need to install a zipper since it will be stretchy enough to put on anyway. I didn't put one in.

I had problems sewing grosgrain ribbon onto my epaulettes when working on my Full Metal Alchemist uniform. Here's what I did and it came out flawlessly.

First off, you're gonna have to hand sew. It takes longer but looks better. I also used a really thin needle and invisible thread.

Use scotch tape to hold the ribbon into place along the edge that you're not sewing, it'll keep the ribbon flat and you'll get no puckers.

Random question for those who are keen on the "seasons" of the fabric stores. I'm thinking of getting stiff cotton for my skirt, but when I was checking out the fabrics a while ago (from September to November basically), purple was scarce and there wasn't a shade that I particularly liked. Since Spring is approaching, should I be expecting more variety of purple fabrics in the stores? (Purple is a spring colour, right?) I'm doing a cosplay shopping run this weekend (going to check out a theatrical make-up store a half-hour away), and I'm wondering if it would be worth going out of my way to look for fabrics, or if the spring stuff hasn't come in yet.

I was curious if any of you knew of any good glove tutorials? I figured I'd be able to save money by sewing the gloves myself instead of buying them from some store. I've been looking around the net a bit and I've only found tutorials that have the thumb separate. Anyone know of any patterns/tutorials that don't use a separate thumb?

ok so I need some opinions, in the newest pics i had satin bows, but looking at it i think it might look funny cuz the rest of my costume is matte, so i tried a matte red cloth i had, what do y'all think?

satin front
Satin back
matte frount
matte back
the matte bows arn't fully completed since im not sure if ill be using them or not. my only problem with the matte is the bows are a bit thick... or at least i think so. and though satin is shiny its thin and easier to make bows with in my experience.

@stardust Personally, I'm a huge fan of matte senshi fukus, so I'd say go with that one.

@airpwane Solving your problem is a very simple three-step process:

Step 1) Trace hand (and forearm up to however long you want them)
Step 2) Draw seam allowance
Step 3) Sew

Congratulations, you just made a pair of gloves!

yea, it does look better, and about the gloves i tried making my own be4 and completely failed. add more than seam allowances cuz they have to fit the circumference of your hand and arm i learned that the hard way lol
