That's because fashion is Western-dominated and the Powers That Be are beginning to open the doors to Eastern countries that show promise in the fashion scene. So Japan is beginning to do its own little mini fashion events.

Essentially, as far as recognition goes, Japan is late to the party.

What are the fashion capitals of the world?
Milan. Paris. London. New York.

Next.

EDIT: Wait, wait, wait. So Osaka has to have an Asian Fashion week...in Asia?! Wow...that only enhances my point.

I hope you aren't mistaken, actually. ^_^ Please provide the links to those stores with the collections you mentioned and the vids about those particular events. If you have any reviews you have found helpful, I'd love to read those as well (if I haven't already) - since this is my industry and learning about new developments for marketing would assist me greatly.

Hong Kong is (finally) up there, coming in at #2 this year.

The 2010 ranking is:
New York
Hong Kong
London
Paris
Los Angeles
Milan
Sydney
Miami
Barcelona
Madrid

(The ranking is based on how many new innovations have occurred the past 2 seasons, plus the amount of retail outlets which have purchased bulk amounts of ready-to-wear designs from designers who showed at the Fashion Weeks in those cities. I think it also still factors in breadth of coverage in international media.)

Nah the Osaka fashion month, week or whatever date it is called only proves it more that Japanese getting cozy with other Asians. When I see Japanese fashion magazine, it is a rarity to find one that feature western models on it while the one imported from the west are not selling well in Japan. Japanese girls always love to be cute rather than to be masculine/mature.

Hahaha! As usual, you completely blind yourself.
Have you even BEEN to Japan? What makes you an authority on Japanese culture? You still haven't answered.

And masculine, huh? What do you mean by that?
Is it because I've got a mustache?

I'm a feminist, so this should be interesting.

Japan began to emulate Western fashion during the middle of the 19th century. By the beginning of the 21st century it had altered into what is known today as 'street fashion'. The term 'street fashion' is used to describe fashion where the wearer customizes outfits by adopting a mixture of current and traditional trends. Such clothes are generally home-made with the use of material purchased at stores.

I don't know why you would call me an authoritity of Japanese culture when I never even once said I'm Japanese and I believe none of you believe me. Besides where is that "you are a troll" religion you are believing?

Masculinity shows maturity while feminimity shows immaturity, I'm ofcours talking about appearance, not about other stuff.

It makes me all happy and warm inside to see that this thread is still alive

EDIT: Oh snap, Meg went there. Never pretended to be Japanese? Riiight. And what part of femininity shows immaturity exactly? You can say you just mean appearance wise, but that doesn't even make sense! Obviously you mean more than that

Let's see. Osaka does have a pretty good street fashion scene going on…but that is just locals doing made-up personal FRUITS stuff. I meant actual real professional designers contributing to the industry.

I thought I could help you out and confirm what event it is you are referring to, but I can't find any info on this at all.
Oh, except for the Senba Robot Fashion Contest in Osaka?
…In which case, yes: an animated doll did win this year.
