Curd's quite thick (even when it hasn't had a chance to set), so it should stay in place as long as I make sure that the horns are sealed at the tip and keep them upright. If the worst comes to it, I can try sealing the end with a wafer or something. Lemon meringue pie's basically a pastry crust with curd in it, so there's no need to worry about it making the pastry solid.

The first thing I need to do is work out how much curd I'll need (I've got a lemon meringue pie recipe I can adjust), but first I have to see to some somnous matters for several hours.

I second jealousy that you have nearly-ripe fruit in your yard. Because of the drought over here, the apple crop is just DESTROYED for this year (as in, nothing. At all. There's no local apples at the markets, no Ontario-area apples in the grocery stores, all the orchards even had to close for the season because they have nothing to sell...), so there's nothing to pick off the old apple trees in the back fields. A damn shame, because Mom and I were looking forward to getting a basket or several of fresh-picked apples for the first time in years (we only just discovered the trees last fall, since I never seemed to hike out there at the right time of year for them to have their fruit ripened). Sigh. No luck finding any wild berries, either. The raspberry canes I found one year haven't come back since, and I've yet to find anything at Mom's house either that isn't poisonous.:P

Oh man, you just reminded me that I need to run out to the campus and raid all their blueberry bushes before someone else does! Haven't been out to look at them since last week and they were just starting to ripen then.

That's it, tomorrow morning I am going to go and eat all the blueberries~

And maybe raid that new garden I found that everyone seems to have planted and forgotten about.

Boyfriend has Jewish Challah bread... The way he describes it, it sounds effing delicious. Shame I'll have to wait about three months to try some myself

I'm pescatarian, but i eat to live, not live to eat. Everyone makes fun of how slow I eat. But I ENJOY eating slowly because I can taste my food instead of inhaling it.
You guys are making me hungry!!!O: -grabs oreos-
Funfact: Oreo's are vegan. And now you know.

Behold! The process of making cream horn (cases);

First you mix butter and flour.

Then you add water.

Then you wrap it up with butter and roll it and fold it to get this;

Next you roll it out.

Divide it up and stard wrappng it around molds.

Start baking them (yeah, I need more practise making them).

And thus they're done (if a little deformed);

...I'll sort out the curd later this afternoon.

My boyfriend and I are now doing modified Iron Chef dinners. Modified in that we can't really compete at cooking against each other (we have a tiny kitchen, ha ha), but one night during the week, I come home with the ingredient he has to cook with the next night, and then Friday he lets me know what I'll be cooking with on Saturday.

So far we've only done one week of dinners.

He has an aversion to cooking with prepackaged stuff, so I'll mostly be tossing those at him. His last ingredient was Velveeta macaroni and cheese. He made a mac 'n cheese pizza, which would have been AWESOME if he didn't also proceed to cover it in another two layers of shredded cheese. I couldn't make it through an entire slice before my stomach started making me regret *everything* I ate that day...

My ingredient was super hot peppers from our garden. I roasted them with some carrots and onions with chicken, made some rice, wrapped it all up in tomato-basil tortillas, and topped them with salsa. Delicious, except I'm not used to such powerfully spicy things. Ate it anyways, though... several helpings, ha ha. XP
