Can't for the life of me find a good gumbo recipe. I've tried Paula Dean and I was disappointed. May have to go out an get the zatarans box..

Deen's recipe doesn't use file powder, a common characteristic of gumbo recipes. And the roux instructions she gives only specify to cook for 10 minutes; many of the others I've seen require cooking it down for 30 minutes or more, which will create a depth of flavor you won't get from a quick turn around the pan. What are you looking for in your gumbo that you're not getting in the recipes you've tried? Surely there's one out there that's better than Zataran's.

In personal news, I am having a serious Pad Thai craving.

Mmmmm, Pad Thai. I was at a con this weekend and ended up having pad thai for all 4 meals from Sat night to Sunday night. I'm still not sick of it. THAT GOOD.

It's been a while since I've had gumbo. To be honest I have no idea how its even supposed to taste anymore. However, I tried this recipe and did just what you mentioned with the roux for 20-30 minutes.

Paula Deans recipe had some flavor but it was definitely missing something (that or I had skipped out on something that the recipe needed.) The last time I did that recipe was a long time ago.

That recipe looks pretty bitchin', and I don't even eat shellfish.

At our local Irish pub, I had a beef stew made with Guinness. It was delicious. So I tried making my usual stew recipe with Guinness instead of red wine. Also delicious!

A part of me wishes everyone would post photos of what they've made.

But tonight I made pan seared salmon that was seriously lacking in any flavor but I made a last second glaze made from rosemary, lemon, butter, and brown sugar. It saved my salmon!

My friends and I were making soup tonight at the cafe in the community center for this fundraiser they have called the "Souper Bowl", and having been in charge of making the soup with some recipes the lady who runs it gave us, we were tasting it towards the end -- wooooooo boy, I practically had to pull my friend off that potato soup. It was SO GOOD. Seriously, I'm going to have to get that recipe and make some at home.

Went to Chilli's for dinner and decided to get chicken fajitas. Seems that Mondays are double the chicken fajitas at no extra cost XD Needless to say I had a hell of a lot of food! Lol, when I was almost done, the waitress came by to check up and said she was impressed that I was able to eat so much. Good stuff though, but pretty sure I need to diet XD

I've decided to try and save money by making my coffee liqueur. The supermarket own brand rum, coffee, vanilla pods and sugar all came to about £5 more than a large bottle of Tia Maria, and if all goes well I'll be able to make almost twice that much. =3

I found a recipe for homemade limoncello that I really want to make. I had a little at an over priced Italian restaurant not too long ago and it was yummy.

I just had a chocolate cake shake for the the first time from a place called Portillo's. Pretty sure I'm now dying XD
