It turns out my aunt and uncles are visiting on Saturday, and I've been roped into baking a pie for them. v_v

Who knows - dietary fads come and go.

I don't think it's healthier, but it makes a really nice flaky pie crust. I coat the outside with egg whites and sugar. :3

I know shortening also makes fluffier cookies, but since it lacks flavour i will do 1/2 and 1/2... to get that buttery kick.

I tend to use butter for most things, but shortening is great in pastry crusts.

Tomorrow (or since its 3am, in about 8 hours) I get to try my hand at making a japanese strawberry shortcake. They look so pretty and I love strawberries so I thought it'd be a perfect way to start off summer/con season!

I wish the farmer's market on the side walk would open again. I like my produce local.

Just ate some fresh peaches. I'd forgotten how delicious non-canned fruit was. lD

Totally agree - fresh fruit is so much better! I find it hard to catch peaches when they are just right though. Seems like there is a narrow window between too hard and too ripe. But when they're ripe, fresh peach cobbler is delicious.

Speaking of fruit and cobblers, I bought fresh cherries yesterday. We always manage to eat them all though before I get around to making a pie or a cobbler from them

I just put a carrot cake in the oven. Icing them tends to be a bit hit and miss for me, so I plan to use a little more sugar and a little less cream cheese in it when it comes to that part.

EDIT: I forgot to add vanilla essance to the iceing. NOOOOOOOOOO!

Pasta carbonara

It's my newest addiction - well, a couple of months old but still in full force.
It has everything I love the most - pasta, cream, cheese and bacon

Actually, this pyramid is emphasizing what the U.S. produces the most of and is encouraging you to buy and eat lots of it.
There are more accurate pyramids out there, usually with vegetables and protein at the base and grains up closer to the top. Grains aren't BAD per se, but we do eat too much of them here in the US.
BECAUSE WE'RE SUPPOSED TO!
