How to Go About this Pattern...

I'm not sure how to make a pattern for Brendan (Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire)'s (ski) hat. It seems easy enough, but I don't know how I would draw the spikes.

I'm planning on just making the white part, then sewing it into a black headband, which I already have.

That's what I thought, and a lot of people think. But, if you look very closely, you can see his black/brown hair underneath the headband.

What about something like this: http://glorioushats.blogspot.com/200...ar-fleece.html but not so overexaggerated with the pointy parts?
