Red face (Sort of) Original Ciel Phantomhive Cosplay

Hi!

I am planning to cosplay Ciel Phantomhive from Kuroshitsuji and I do not want to buy a complete cosplay because I want to be a bit original.

So, I have drawn a picture of how I would like to look:

What do you guys think? Do you think I would pass as Ciel Phantomhive even if I do not have a perfect cosplay from the series?

Also, what do you think of the design?

I think people would see that you're cosplaying Ciel. Heck, even I would see and I'm not familiar with the show. lol
And yay for originality. Go for it.

Its quite obviously Ciel, if ya ask me. Keeping the elements that are distinctly Ciel--his hair color and style, the eyepatch, his eye color, his ring, the near-constant cane and a tendency towards shorts and small tophats--are pretty much gonna concrete that.

Ciel as a character also has so many different outfits--both in the show and manga as well as in the inserts--that a costume that isn't 100% canon will be recognized without a problem nonetheless. ;] I say if ya wanna do it, go for it!

Q_Q So this is my "final" cosplay. As I was selling stuff at Okashiicon, Malmö Sweden too I did not want to wear anything that would be too hard on me (I have another set of shoes for example which do work a lot better with this cosplay, but is a pain to wear all day).

I did not purchase any contact lenses but magically my green eyes transformed into these grey eyes instead so I guess it is no rush.

This cosplay may have costed me around $50, so it is actually quite cheap. What do you guys thing? Win or Fail?

Black jean shorts are obviously modern make and kind of ruin the Victorian period look. I think you can get away with the rest... but the shorts kind of kill it for me.

Also strongly suggest pantyhose or flesh colored tights under the shorts and before the socks.

Lose the sock ruffles... too femenine, especially with nothing else ruffly going on on the top, maybe fold over your socks so they fall mid-calf? You can make a pair of sock garters pretty simply from black fabric scraps or you can just glue up a pair of under-the-knee socks and it'll be consistant with his other outfits.

Now it looks like Ciel is wearing a pair of women's tights with two lacy wedding garters around his knees for no apparent reason O-o

That is pure cotton, not jean.

Mind that I used this cosplay when it was 0-5 degrees Celsius outside. Brrr! >__<'' I didn't want to freeze myself to death, otherwise I'd just go with the socks alone.

This was my biggest inspiration. I find it beautiful to put a feminine touch to Ciel, especially when most people I guess consider him Kodona Lolita. I myself think I cosplayed him beautifully and I will do him even better this summer when the warmth has come.

Oh and thanks everyone who called me sweet and hot at Okashiicon, hihi, that lighted up my day!

No offense, but if you put up a post asking people for their opinions, it comes across as rude to dismiss them when offered. It's great to have confidence in your cosplay, but why ask opinions at all if you feel you did him beautifully?

As for the shorts, I don't believe Kira was referring to the material they were made out of, but rather to the cut and style of them. Cotton or not, they do look modern. My own recommendation would be to remove the buttons on the pocket (which look like modern plastic ones) and to perhaps do something to cause the legs to fall straighter (which will also give you a more boyish/masculine look).

I am very much with you in not-wanting to freeze, as I know for a fact Kira is as well. Please note that she did not suggest no tights, but rather to wear flesh colored ones instead. The black-on-black is part of what causes the lace frill on the socks to look odd. Should you wish to keep the frill, I would recommend flesh-colored tights in place of black tights under the socks.

kiratsukai was just giving her opinion to try to help you improve. Also it's hard to tell what the shorts are made out of from a picture. At first I though jean too ^^;

Anyways~

What is a good idea, as to actually show everyone how you really want it to look, why not cosplay him again and have a mini shoot in your house (where it's warm! ). Then everyone can see what it's like without the tights etc~

For the hat on the head, it seems like with the eyepatch on that side along with the hat, there is too much going on, on that side. Try to put the hat on the other side (like in your drawing).

With all original designs, there can be tweaking. In the photo that you have, the pants don't look straight (they may be, but in that photo they don't).

As kiratsukai said, with the socks, when I googled Ciel (as I don't watch the show, i know it because it's popular), the majority of pictures had him with socks just below the knee with a sock garter and the knee socks that I did see had no ruffles.

In the end though, it is your Original Design but there is always room for tweaking. Try small different tweaks with the costume on, as on a piece of paper, it's a different thing.

I will cosplay him later this year when it is warm . I don't have tons of money to spend on a cosplay so I take what I have and make the best out of it, just wanting everyone to know that.

Yes I should put the hat on the other side >_<'', but I cosplayed him almost all the day without the eyepatch (I drew commissions for people during the convention and I'd rather do that with depth perception. I didn't plan for it though, people just asked me to do that so I had to remove the eyepatch.) I will probably cosplay Mion at the next convention

The pants are straight The picture does not reveal my best side as it is just taken by someone during the convention. It is really not a proper photo shoot!

I planned this cosplay to be budget friendly and I am going to tweak it differently during this year (that was the whole plan)!
