My dad only jokes of doing star wars cosplays - I don't know if he likes it or not, but I definitely don't think he'd take the time to work on it. Perhaps if everything just fell in his lap (that is to say, money/costume) he'd probably wear it but he'd never go to a convention. He'd just wear it at home.

My mom doesn't like Cosplay, too bad. But my dad and I are going to participate in the Dragon*Con parade! He's really awesome when it comes to creative things. Plus hes apparently dragging me to ComicCon, too. WHAT MATTER OF SORCERY IS THIS?! A parent that wants to go to a con, but their cosplaying child doesn't? Madness I tell you, madness!

My Dad and I cosplayed Haruhi Suzumiya and Kyon. But more often than not my Dad and Step-mom do their own cosplays. xD

My dad told me he used to go to science fiction conventions as Han Solo, so since I'm considering going as Gin from Detective Conan to New York Comic Con, I made a joke that he should be my Vodka since he has everything he would need in his closet. He hasn't said no...yet.

I'll probably push for it again later if I do end up going with Gin. I can just see that awkward conversation though. "Daddy, will you be my vodka? *puppy eyes*"

On the other hand, my cosplay group calls my best friend's dad "Belze" since he reminds us of Belze from Black Cat. One time he joked about showing up at a con with us as Belze, thinking we'd be embarrassed but instead we jumped on it, saying we could dress up their family dog as Anubis from Black Cat as well. He took his offer back after that XD

My mom hasn't yet, but she wants to cosplay! She especially wants to cosplay Yuuko from xxxHOLiC since that's her favorite anime character ever. And she could so pull it off, too!

Also, when I told her I am interested in doing the Maid's Cafe for Anime Expo next year, she was all like "Hey, mind if I join you?" XD!!! She already has a maid's outfit in mind, and I plan to have my friend make mine. Since she's often mistaken as my older sister, I think this could work, and I think it'd be really fun!

I've been trying to convince my dad for years to cosplay as Rude from final fantasy. Once he puts on a suit and some shades he looks like him! My dad really isn't opposed to cosplaying with me he just never really does it.
My mom said she would love to cosplay as Fang from Final Fantasy 13. I've been really hoping she would since I cosplay as lightning but she keeps telling me to wait. One of these days I'll get them to cosplay with me! I think it'd be fun.

The real challenge is getting my brother to cosplay. He refuses every time.

Last year my father and step mom actually were considering cosplaying as Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett for Halloween. I was gonna lend my razors and razor holster to him, but unfortunately plans fell through
But they would probably never actually cosplay at a con.
Same thing with my mom. She's pretty supportive of my cosplaying. She won't help me with my costumes but she does get hotels and provides rides for me and my friends. I can't imagine her cosplaying at a con though. lol She'd probably get really freaked out if someone wanted to take her pic or hug her.

This will probably be more common when the next generation comes around and people our age are the parents lol. I'm already starting to see a lot of younger parents with their 1-3 year olds dressed up. I love it. =)

As for my mom...She's never been hateful about my love for anime and cosplay, but she doesn't really get it either. It's not something that interests her in the least bit. Though I could ask her, she'd probably just be like "Oh, what a nice bonding opportunity!" and would never actually do it lol.

My brother though...I've been trying to get him to cosplay for like 2 years (he'd be a perfect Zolo) but he refuses. He's a total anime lover, but he just doesn't have any interest in socializing (or rather, it stresses him out. Plus he seems to think he's not "fit" enough to cosplay). My other brother is interested in cosplaying Sephiroth, but he's Mr. procrastinator. >_<

I find this thread funny ..being from the other side of the issue. I brought my daughter into cosplaying lol. My brother and I went to Ota when it began. Eventually, I brought my daughter and we've been having a blast doing it together ever since...until this year
My daugher now lives in California and won't be at Otakon this year. It just won't be the same. I've met great people regardless of age, every year. It is a bit uncomfortable at moments when some cosplayers laugh or make nasty comments. Truth is, I was part of the generation that helped Otakon grow... accepting of others differences. It's hard dealing with some con particpaters who are so narrow minded.

My daughter and I shared memories that will never fade so...DO IT !! Ask them to do it with you. You won't regret it.

My mom likes anime a fair bit, and she's interested in cosplaying, but I think she's more interested in seeing me dressing up, rather than herself. Leave the weird characters to the daughter, I guess. xD She has expressed interest in cosplaying Cher from Wolf's Rain, though...it would be fun if we cosplayed from the same series. Ah, well. One of these days I'll convince her!

I really envy the people in here XD My parents won't cosplay with me, but they won't stop me from doing it either (all they were do is give me the occasional 'make that longer' or 'that dress can't be that tight, loosen it up a bit')

Which is a shame. I'd love to dress my dad up as Crocodile/Mr.0 whenever I cosplay Robin. (Although he is having me commision his halloween costume next year, so it's a start)
