Maka's Boot Buckles

Okay so like.. I'm getting really irritated by this.

The buckles on Maka's boots are backwards. As in, they don't actually function. So.. I'm thinking I'm just going to make fake buckles and have velcro closing them instead. I dunno, like, when this sort of thing happens, where the artist doesn't make something in a possible way, do you go for functionality and realism or looking exactly like the character? Would people notice if you used real buckles but had them facing the appropriate direction (meaning not like in the pictures)?

Seriously, this has been bugging me for ages. Dx

I just made mine with craft foam XD I created fake looking belts, with rings of craft foam that I slid over my covered boots. Hope this helps ^-^ I've gotten lots of compliments on my boots, even though they aren't the best xD So it must look pretty good xD

Same here ^^ Also made mine out of craft foam, then I used Velcro where the belts would open and close as well as where I wanted them to be on the boots, so I could take them off easily but then when they were on the boots they stayed in place. :3

I'm going to use something like Blanket tape. Its just a really wide fabric tape and a little bit of shine to it. I'll probably hand sew parts of it to the boots. I'm not making any sense, am i?

Fff I did not even notice that..

For my boots, I used plastic sliders that I painted silver. My ankle belts are functional. They start from the center back, and then the short end of the strap is looped around the bar of the buckle. That was about the only part of the boots that stood up to con-wear.

By the way-- when I say tape, I don't mean the sticky kind (for those of you who have no clue about fabric or sewing...)

I did something similar to this and it works quite nicely. On the very end of the strap, past the buckle where the end piece is, I sewed in velcro and the other piece of velcro where it should attach to the other part of the strop. I have a fake metal piece is glued on the proper side so it hides the stitches wonderfully. Using real buckles is a bit of a hassle to begin with, due to the fact that they are: A- expensive compared to the entire cost of the boot and B- usually restrict the size that the strap can be. Because the velcro is sewed to the strap (made out of vinyl) rather than just glued, I don't have to worry about the velcro coming apart.

What I did (since it was last minute)was use elastic bands (mostly white) and the hot glue it around the shoe, but be warned,it may slowly start to peel,so be prepared for that.
Hope it helped!!

You could always cut up white belts and glue them on
