Beginner Cosplay Photographer
Well I guess you could say I'm still a beginner since I've only been to three conventions (two very small ones and Otakon 2010) but I like some thoughts/comments/critiques on the good pics I have so far: http://kjh-photography.deviantart.com/gallery/26880982

I like the first image and last image of your DeviantArt cosplay gallery, because they both have interesting backgrounds and you did not use on-camera flash. The first image showing the character Lightning, has a nice post-processing effect, and I like how she is in-character.
The photos that show backgrounds of city buildings don't seem to match the cosplays well, and they are distracting-looking. The portrait 'Fighter for Hire" has a nice fighter pose. The lighting looks fine, since I don't notice an unnatural effect from your on-camera flash, even though you used it here. The photo of the man sitting in a blue and black costume seems to be like a snap-shot. Give him a pose that would fit his character. I recommend you try more candid-looking poses, like your 'The Wandering Samurai' portrait. |

I agree w. Bruce that the background of some of the images doesn't fit the character very well. I'd suggest exploring the shoot location to find more fitting environment for your shoots.
Loving the color of your shots. Especially the Kenshin and Sanosuke photo ![]() Keep up the good work! ![]()

I don't know much about photography yet, but I do agree about the backgrounds. Maybe find some nice scenery to match the characters, like your In Your Nightmares and Target Aquired photos.
I do really like your shot of Medusa. The angle, pose, and background are all very nice. Your shot of Kenshin is also well done ^_^! The only thing that draws from the photo is the background but the pose is spot on. And I have to agree, I'm falling in love with the colors of your shots. Can't wait to see more from you
