Okay, hello everyone and thanks for your attention~
Now the deal is that I've highly considered cosplaying as Jūshirō Ukitake from Bleach, and well, he has a sickness that makes him occasionally cough up blood as many people may know... and my question is, is that in any way possible to recreate or am I asking the impossible? It would be really cool to go that extra mile for accuracy, although I'm aware of that could of course scare somebody not knowing the character and in that case I'll have to explain it's not real. But yeah, is it worth attempting, how in that case? Or should I just do it in a more "safe" way, for example bringing a slightly bloody handkerchief/whatever with me that I can pretend to just cough normally in? Any help, opinions and whatnot are highly appreciated. I'm lost...

Gene Simmons did this all the time in KISS and apparently his recipe for blood is here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...1081208AATGc4T but I don't know how he did it. You can also apparently get blood pellets from costume and makeup/theatrical places online, but I don't know how easily you can get them in Finland. It's probably available wherever Lordi gets their stuff...
If you had blood pellets, you could just pop one in your mouth discreetly and cough into a handkerchief or something, probably.

... I would highly suggest against that. You might be taken away by con security in case someone thinks that you are sick. No one wants to be around someone who is coughing up blood. NO ONE. It won't even matter even if you're being in character. The most you should do is to carry around a bloody handkerchief. :/
Besides, no one will be able to take a picture of you coughing up blood. |

You might put a spot of fake blood on the corner of your mouth or something. But I agree with Crystalike; not a good idea to actually cough it up. What she said, you could get taken out of the con by someone concerned for your safety and that of others. But also, because you could get stuff on the clothing of those around you. Fake blood is messy as hell and stains like mad and you don't want to get it someone else's costume; it's just rude.

Thank you so much for writing everyone, it's really helpful! Arigato~ ^^
Yeah, I realized maybe it's not that good of a idea just because of the things that Crystalike and Berzerker mentioned, I'd rather not stain someone's costume... or my own. How could I forget about that...? I think I'll go with carrying around a slightly blood stained handkerchief and maybe have some fake blood in the corner of my mouth too, just for the effect. That would be symbolic enough, neh? (without scaring the living daylights out of con-goers) @Berzerker_prime: Is all fake blood greasy? Isn't there any version of it that like... dries up or something? Quote:
Pretty hard to capture just that second if tried to do it, almost impossible... But I still wonder if it would be okay to do the blood coughing if I had a private photoshoot with my friend in my home's yard? That way it would only be us two outside in the middle of nowhere basically.

If you did a private photoshoot with friends who understand what you're doing with the blood it would be fine. Also, the little dribble of blood from your mouth should work well too.
You could record a video of you coughing up (fake) blood if you wanted, but otherwise just go for the visual, not the real effect. XD |
