Undertaker Hat Help

I purchased an Undertaker costume from Hellocosplay a few months ago, and the brim on the hat is waaaaay too wide.

I made a small cut on the edge of it as an experiment, and the inside of the brim is white, so if I tried to cut it down it would have white around the edge. Also, I'm squeamish about just going ahead and cutting it anyway because I don't want to destroy the hat. I'd like a little guidance first.

Is there a way that I can trim the brim and somehow cover up the white without mutilating the whole thing?

Thank you for your time~

I'm not sure on what advice to give as far as trimming the hat goes, but if you wind up doing that, you could always use a nice black fabric ribbon to make a seam of sorts around the edges, like you see on some top hats.

You'd obviously need to trim the ribbon though, depending on what size you get. Theres should be some decently priced ribbon at your local Walmart or a fabric store.
