Completely new to cosplay, but I have such ambitious ideas! Where do I start and how?
My name is Ambrynni and I am completely new to the world of cosplay.
The most I have possibly done is dress up as a makeshift princess leia crafted out of a bedsheet, a tiny belt and borrowing a plastic 17th century style musket to use as a gun! I should really attach an image of it to show you how bad it is!
I love art, and I love creating things. However, I have only a very basic idea of how to sew. I can literally stitch a bit of fabric to another quite messily, and thats about it. I have looked at peoples cosplays and seen references to patterns and stitches and I don't know what it means!
I would love to be able to make my own cosplays. My mum outright laughed at me when I suggested it and said "but you can't even sew?". I don't know what to do!
I have a list of characters I'd love to cosplay, here is a few characters and games/movies I wanted to cosplay from.
Mass Effect (these all look very intricate)
Liara T'soni- would require a headpiece, which would be hard to make!
Commander Shepard- It is my dream to cosplay this character. It looks so difficult though due to the armour.
Game of Thrones-
Daenerys Targaryen- she has a variety of dresses with a mixture of complicated to uncomplicated designs. I'm still quite unsure though
Arya Stark-perhaps a bit easier? Maybe getting existing clothes and tweaking them a bit?
Hobbit/Lord of the Rings-
Arwen-complicated but would be nice!
A hobbit- maybe a bit more makeshift type costume- fixing up existing clothes.
The Fifth Element-
Leloo- She has mainly normal clothes but those suspenders look impossible!
MERIDA! I would love to cosplay Merida, this character first gave me the idea to cosplay.
Padme- The costume in Attack of the Clones were she is battling looks not too difficult but still has its challenges.
I am willing to put a bit of time into this and learn some new things, but I really don't know when to start. I googled commander shepard cosplays and there was all this talk of foam and things and I got a bit freaked out. I was worried that cosplay would be completely out of my league.
I like the look of this worbla board material but its quite expensive and I wouldn't want to buy it just to find out I can't do anything with it!
My aunt has a sewing machine so I know I have perhaps one piece of equipment to start with.
What cosplay do you think I could try for beginners? Is there something far more easy from another fandom that I should try? Any good tutorials or starting points?
Sorry for this big wall!
