Ultimate Convention Location
I would die and go to heaven if a cruise ship ever offered a convention cruise! One week long, food all in and a proper theatre space for shows and guest appearances. Someone make it happen, please.

I fully concur! I went on my first cruise a couple of years ago, and had the same thought ^_^.

We need to get the community convincing cruise lines how profitable it would all be. It shall be done!

If I ever win the mega millions jackpot in the lottery, I'll consider something like this. The problem would be,how do I decide who can come aboard, since EVERY cosplayer will want to? A cruise ship can only fit 4000 or so if it's a big one. There would certainly have to be multiple voyages. I wouldn't want to charge a buttload either, since cosplays cost money already.
Maybe I could make it so you MUST have at least two decent cosplay costumes in order to come aboard.

At first, it's just a turn of phrase; and then your ship is boarded by pirates.

A long time ago when I was researching all the cons back in FL, there was actually some cons that were on cruises! But sadly, a lot of them got cancelled due to being expensive and not many people signing up for it. I can't remember the names anymore, but they were on animecons.com

If that ever really happened it would probably cater to the older crowd, and for that I'd be thankful!

So it'd be predominantly a cosplay convention then? Cosplayers seem to forget the numbers upon numbers of people that attend conventions without cosplaying at all.

Trapped at sea with thousands of anime fans? I really don't know about that.

I like the whole 'having at least one costume' rule.
Also, for those that don't want to be around anime fans, they wouldn't be forced to go. :P
If anyone does hear anything about a cosplay/anime convention on a cruise ship, be sure to post it here. I wonder what it would take to get something like this put together.

Why don't they have these? I've seen Furry cruises before. And furries are known for being significantly more poor than cosplayers.

Because on every furry forum i go on, as well as every furry i talk to at cons and meets always complain they have no job, are a loner, etc. All except half the fursuiters (who had the money to make/buy a suit)... the other half of the suiters have really nice friends.
Anime fans, on the other hand, usually have jobs (from what i understand) or are younger and their parents pay for things.
*shrugs* Just what i've noticed.

It's a cruise, so like anything it would have to be first come, first serve. Buy your ticket and you're there. No one would make it a necessity to be a cosplayer to be there. It'd be welcome to all geeks! I can't imagine why it would be more expensive than a regular cruise, so I'd think they could fill it up okay if there was enough notice given in advance.
