At the con hotel... "Gotta go up to go down..."
"Gotta go up to go down" or "What goes up must come down" or " Gotta go down to go up"...you get the idea.
I *cringe* when I hear this! If you are on the 10th floor waiting to go down, and you get on an elevator going up, an elevator will still stop at your floor on the way back down. This basically doubles the amount of stops elevators have to make. Multiply this by the number of floors, the number of con goers and you have a mess. |

It doesn't matter if it stops or not. If you want to get "in" I find that most of the time, it pays to simply get in the elevator when it is empty(ish) regardless of its direction so you actually get a spot inside and have a chance at making use of the elevator at all.
Or, even better, take the stairs whenever applicable. |

That sounds like the mantra of Ohayocon >.> The elevators at that con get insane so going up to go down tends to be about the only way you're going to get on the elevator at all. Its generally not comfortable (or even pleasant) but it's just how it tends to go sometimes.

On that note, how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
I live on the 11th floor of an apartment building. I don't get on the elevator unless the 'down' button's back-light turns off, indicating my elevator has arrived. The 'vator will either say 'Going Down', have a leeetle arrow that points up or down...or the gosh darned button you just pushed less than 60 seconds ago will stop being lit up. Elevators let you know if they go up or down. Mine are 35 years old and smell like cigarettes. The ones at a hotel are far more sophisticated. And WHY did I just spend 11 minutes typing all this?

Basically sounds like what happened to my group at Youmacon last year.
That's all we kept hearing, "Gotta go up to go down!" We were on the 22nd floor, so taking the stairs was a bit of a long run for us, though we thought about it quite a few times xD Though, then we gained Hyper the stormtrooper and Darth Vader from the 501st legion in our group, and we seemed to get a few elevators faster. When I say faster...I mean waiting for 15 minutes instead of 45 minutes. |

Sounds like Natsucon 09, where there were only two elevators, and so many con goers packed into them that the ended up breaking one.

Depends on how close to the top my room is. If it's pretty damn close, I just want to get into an elevator, no matter what. The extra minute or so I spend in the elevator I would have spent just standing there waiting for one anyway.
Or if it's Ikkicon. The elevators were crazy at that con (especially because it wasn't just con goers, a lot of people were staying in the hotel for the New Years festivities in Austin). You just wanted to get in, because there was no guarantee of another empty elevator coming any time soon.

Take the goddamn stairs if at all possible. Good exercise. I'm glad AB's convention center itself has escalators.

Its Easier to Goes down the Stairs in some Costumes. some times if the elevator is taking too long to If your rooming on the first 4-6 floors You can take the stairs going up if you don't feel like waiting for the Elevator. If your on the 10th floor I would Recommend taking the elevator cause your gunna be out of breath running up those stairs @_@

At AUSA 2010 people that wanted in for the host club had to ride the elevators up and down just to be told that no much people was getting in. One thing we learned from someone that work at the Hotel was to hold the button of the floor you wanted and the close button to pass the other floors

The NDK hotel is a MESS for this. Our attendees always manage to break 2/3 elevators EVERY year AND they close the stairs to us so we can't use them and we have to wait for 1 elevator and the using the stairs isn't an option in our case X_X
