I was going to get a tail for my Pinkie Pie cosplay, but with that ridiculously poofy skirt (it almost stands straight out with my petticoat under it), a tail would look a little silly and wouldn't add anything to the cosplay.

I'd say a tail would be a "nice to have", but not a "must have". Especially if it would detract from the cosplay as a whole. But ears/horns/wings really add to it.

I added a tail to my Future Twilight Sparkle, and I wouldn't recommend it unless the hair you use is practically impossible to tangle. I bought a very long purple wig and cut it shorter, which gave me a lot of excess to make the tail from. But, as several people have said before, this is not necessary

All I gotta do is find tall rainbow socks and put my cutie mark on the shorts. Once that's done, my cosplay will be 20% cooler. (See wat I did there? lol)

I found pink "hair extensions" at the dollar store (basically a headband with thin wig hair), which I attempted to tuck into the back of my Pinkie Pie skirt.

I found that as long as it was (2+ feet of hair), it would work its way into my skirt and I'd have to pull the tail out every so often. It also was barely registering over the skirt's poof, so I think I'm with everypony else when I say the tail is pretty unnecessary. :/

I do have plans to try a plush version of the tail, which would be fuller, spunkier and more show-accurate, but I can't comment on whether it's any better until it's finished. ._.

I'm doing a Rainbow Dash cosplay! I just need to add the cutie mark. Do you think it would make a big difference if I didn't do a tail on my cosplay? I figure if I have the wings right, the tail won't make a big deal.

If your cosplay is anything like your design, then no tail is needed. That definitely sells Rainbow Dash!

I did a very simple Derpy hooves cosplay at jafax which I loved cause it was comfy and i made it in like 5 hours. So now I want to do a better version not so thrown together I was thinking of maybe a gala version. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.m

@ Moondemon: I kind of like this pattern group for Derpy. I bet you could find a silver/grey semi-formal, or make it yourself. The bubbles could be made from shimmery organza edged with bead work or fine craft glitter. Or you can make/alter something to resemble what the other characters wear, i.e. more detailed.

I love this artist rendition of derpys gala dress. I am having a little trouble translating it into a human shaped dress. I can't really draw at all.
