The place was filled with people about half my age (Seriously, it's the con where I felt like all the kids went there) --- and they all pretty much kept to their small circles.

It's also the first time I went to a con and witnessed someone do that thing where they talk about someone indirectly thinking they don't hear them.

But wandering about the convention, I noticed it was... mostly indoors and smaller than I was led to believe by the attendee count. It was also less friendly. It's supposed attendee count was similar to Anime North.

But Anime North folks were warm and friendly. AB wasn't very much so, so many people had sadness written all over their face. They have a good costume but it seems the picture request was just sssssooo hard to acquiesce by anything but a grumble.

However, as I said, totally biased. I had spent the 2 previous days at a con where the booths, displays and shows were of interest to me (I found out what I like about anime makes me a hipster at anime cons, something that surprised me), whereas at AB --- I was walking around asking for pictures and really had no one in particular to meet.

Kildread it sounds like my time at Anime Expo :/ it's one of the biggest con's in the U.S and I ended up hating the entire weekend. I wouldn't have any interest in going back.

Maybe it's just the rockabilly I listen to, but to me it kind of oozes sexuality. I guess it could be toned down to be more kid friendly but I sort of feel like that defeats the purpose. Though they did do a good job using Elvis Presley songs in Lilo and Stitch.

In ABs defense Sunday has always been a dead day, and it was Easter on top of it. I didn't go this year, despite having gone every year since 2006. It's usually pretty lively Friday and Saturday.

To be fair, had I went for a good reason (And the whole weekend), I would likely have found ways to enjoy it. I wouldn't have went to AB on its own without having someone to meet there anyway --- since it doesn't cater to my main interest.

As it stood, I was there for 3 hours before having to get the passengers back in the car for the drive home. It was simpler to be there than go to PAX for a few hours then drive back to AB and pay a fortune in parking.
