I clip my cats claws regularly. They don't enjoy it, but they tolerate it - there's some meowing and a bit of wiggling but they don't freak out or try to scratch me. I think that starting when they are young helps a lot. You can buy clippers at any pet store. I keep our pair near my computer since the cats tend to hop into my lap when I'm using it. If their claws poke me, I can grab the clippers and snip. Whereas if they see me coming with them, they run and I'd never catch them. I flip them on their back cradled in my left arm, squeeze a paw to extend the claw and clip. Like Luna said, you just have to be careful not to clip them too far back - stay in front of the pink part. Only takes a minute or two, then they give me a dirty look and run away, But their tiny cat brain forgets about it pretty quickly and they come back and sit in my lap again.

I don't think I ever clipped my cats claws- however, he went outside multiple times a day and loved his scratching post. I guess that negated the need for claw trimming. Anyone ever clipped horse hooves? It's kinda weird.

Agreeing with everyone else on being careful where you cut. A lot of people think they have to trim the nails down as close to their flesh as they can but they don't realize that kitties have blood vessels in their nails. So if you try to cut their nails down as close as you can the chances are you're going to cut into the quick of the nail and cause a lot of pain to your kitty. So focusing on trimming just the sharp tip of the nail is all you really need to do.

If your kitty needs her claws trimmed ASAP then I would suggest calling up a vet and seeing if they can do it for you but walk you though how to do it while you're there.

And I second Jojo's gif response. My New Years resolution however is off to a good start. So suck it all of you.

My female cat, I wrap tightly in a towel and do one foot at a time. Sometimes I do front paws one day and back the next, if she gets too wriggly.

Just make certain you gently squeeze her toes, to extend the nails and be very careful not get clip too short, you don't want to hit her quick. It'll bleed like crazy and it hurts. Most cats you can see the quick within the claw.

We're actually not using clippers. We got something that looks like a Sonic Screwdriver, but actually is more a a power sander in terms of performance/functioning. No fear of clipping, THE FUTURE IS NOW!

My nana got one for her cat, she's terrified of it. (It's called the PediPaw I think.) it's hard to hold the nail into the thing while it spins. I've found the clippers easier. Good luck!

I wish I could draw. I'm trying to explain to Meghan my cosplay ideas and she kinda gets it but can't visualize it and id like a concrete reference, it's hard when the plan is just in your head.

Boyfriend ate the McRib once. He said the only good thing about it is the BBQ sauce, which he claimed was actually pretty good and would be worth something in bottled and sold without the disgusting slab of meat it covers.

He said the meat tasted like those $1 Banquet frozen dinners, as in he'd be willing to bet it's the same thing.

Soooooo. I am curious to know what everyone else's 'resolutions' are and how likely you are to follow them.

@Luna: If you wanna tell me your concept I can do my best to come up with a sketch of it? A buddy of mine asked me to do something similar for her MLP one so I am open if you wanna send me your idea.

I think that's the one we got. My wife is the cat specialist in the house, so I'll leave that part to her while I hold down Ms. Pixel. Then after we're covering in scratches, we will celebrate via humping or ignoring each other while we play video games. A win-win either way.

Boyfriend is being kind to McDonalds. As some who's been a BBQ snob for the last 2 years, there's nothing redeeming about the McRib, except of course the fries you get with a combo meal. Either the quality of the McRib meat has dropped since it was introduced a million years ago, or I just remember it being better when I was a kid. BECAUSE, OLD.

My New Year's goals, 2013 edition

-Be better with money- I was doing good with this, but then LIFE! But I've caught a few breaks so far, so it may happen.
-Get into better shape- Possibly. Gonna try. I have a legit plan this time.
-Manage my time better- I will fail at this.

Boyfriend is not picky with BBQ. You could grill a flip-flop and coat it in BBQ sauce and he'd tell you what a great job you did at the cook out. If BBQ sauce has touched it at some point, Boyfriend will consume it and think it's at the very least 'edible'.

When I informed him poison ivy was 'edible' he shrugged and said "I stand by my words".

I can't tell if I am good with money or awful. We're not homeless as of yet so I am guessing I am doing at least decently. But I have a hard time spending money when I have the extra funds to do so. For example; I got loads of monies for Christmas but the only thing that I've bought that isn't something we need in the house is a $12 Owl bag from Walmart. I guess you can count the Chinese from the other night but even then we got it because Brando forgot to defrost the chicken and we didn't have anything else to prepare quickly at 6pm.

I too would like to manage my time better. Because I have so much of it yet I feel unaccomplished. Though I suppose that's a normal feeling for someone who's literally home all day /shrug/ I'd still like to work on setting time aside every day for cleaning, studying Japanese more intensely, and getting back into work outs.

With the cleaning stuff both Brando and I tend to be lazy because once he gets home he's tired and doesn't wanna deal with cleaning stuff and I don't wanna deal with cleaning stuff because we only get a few hours together during the weekdays to hang out and what not. So it would be easier and more ADULLTTTTT if I just tidy up during the week instead of us both putting off cleaning until a month later we have a pile of dirty clothes in the corner that almost reaches the ceiling.

The Japanese thing is just something I'd like to learn and I certainly have the time for it. Hiragana isn't particularly difficult to get hold of, nor is Katakana. So I'd at least like to have them down to the best of my abilities and in the future take the language formally at the college.

I need to manage my schedule better as a whole and stop sleeping in until noon and being overall inactive and lazy. It's easy to get into a slump when you have all the time in the world to be a bum.

The work out stuff isn't really about me 'getting into shape' but I've developed really horrendous back pain over the last year or two that can be really really painful at times. So I am picking Yoga back up again and I'd like to do weight lifting again because I just really enjoyed doing it. I hated sit ups but I genuinely just like lifting weights. Exercise also helps with depression and it gave me something to focus on when I was doing it in the past. I am going to keep a tight lid on keeping my exercise in moderation because the last time I went 'full throttle' with it I was really obsessive and unhealthy with it. So it's something I do really want to do and work on doing in moderation.

I am also eating. Like. A normal person. For months I was not eating anything for breakfast and would often fight myself to not eat until very late in the afternoon, waiting until I felt hungry enough to be physically sick until I'd finally eat and even then it would normally be something very little. I would only eat 'normally' around Brandon and after talking with him about this I know that it isn't really an okay thing to do and it's going to make me feel sicker if I keep doing these starving 'fits' and then only eating normally on the weekend or around Brando. I am going to try and keep a mental check of making sure that I am eating full meals and stopping myself from staring at the calorie listing of anything I touch. Part of this will mean I am going to start eating on my own schedule and not waiting for Brandon to get home at 7:40-8pm. Eating together is nice but I know that I'd feel a lot better being able to eat on a 'normal' schedule.

I don't think I'll be able to do much exercise for a while because I am very congested and have a bad cough still, but I've been eating breakfast for a few days straight now and I am really pleased with myself in that aspect.

Speaking of nom noms. I am making some kind of stir fry tonight! We've got boneless/skinless chicken thighs and some veggies I want to use. I am kinda tired of making honey-lemon chicken stir fry so I might try something with soy sauce and apricot jam and maybe some lemon juice. Be jelousssss.

my "resolution" is hard to briefly explain, and it's not truely a new years resolution because I started trying to make changes over the past month (why wait for January?), but I guess it comes down to being better at time managment - less time spent doing nothing and more time actually living a life away from the internet.

To that end, I'm trying to get myself into a daily routine with loosely scheduled times for computer, dinner, and projects; seriously cutting down on intenet-time (not going cold turkey, but I'm off Facebook for January at least); and going back to a habit I started last year but then dropped after a few months of listing all the things that I got done/accomplished each day before bed. That last one is important to me because I'm a list-maker, but usually my lists are "to-do" lists and I tend to get depressed and overwhelmed looking at all the things I'm supposed to do. Listing all the things I did do helps keep things positive and encourages me to do things so I have a lot to put down at the end of the day.

I also want to get substantially more exercise and take some dance classes, but that's unlikely to happen due to lack of time and money.

I am with you on the time management. I am not sure how much you are familiar with about my life but I am unemployed and work selling commissions, Boyfriend works Monday-Friday. So I am basically loaded with time that goes underutilized.

I know that signing up for classes is super costly, maybe just do activities at home? I cannot dance or work out in front of ANYONE besides Boyfriend so I just come up with things I can do at home and feel comfortable with. You can find some stuff online for learning various dances, and they're really good resources for it as well. But I understand you can only learn so much from watching a video.

I don't make resolutions.

My back feels better from when I wrenched it on Friday, but it's still iffy. I've been stretching which is helping. I'm just afraid that I'm going to move wrong and it'll go back to how it felt on Friday.

Currently I am trying to decide what I want for lunch

I have other unemployed friends with the same time managment problems as you - and as much as I'd like to think about all the stuff I'd be doing if I didn't have a job, I know I'd spend it all being unproductive.

I have a small budget for learning right now, but it's going to a pattern drafting class instread of physical activity. Unfortuantley for me, I've tried lots of stuff, and I really do better in a teacher-directed "classroom" setting so dance stuff isn't something I can do at home besides from basic stretches. (Lack of space is a limiting factor as well)

I don't do resolutions. If I want to change something I do it when I want to, not at some pre-appointed time. Or make changes out of some obligation because it's a new year.

Just wanted to say Happy 2013 everyone! (despite the fact I'm a little late, haha)

Oh the topic of resolutions... I don't do them too... but I have a couple this year. Only doing resolutions I know I will be able to acheive. LOL Such as finishing up video games I'm supposed to be done with and losing some weight.
