Given that I started reading comics in '92, none of this surprises me.

I'm basing my opinion solely on the recent movies, I haven't read a single comic.

I just feel the Captain America is more of a hero.
That's the entire point of Iron-man though, he's not really a hero in the typical aspect. Cap is the "boy scout, typical, good guy" persona hero type. Iron-man is a bit more selfish and to me, realistic because he has issues. Ok yes he's a billionaire, ok yes he's a genius, but I think he's still pretty cool as a character. You really can't compare him and Cap, they were both written with entirely separate goals.

I really. Really. Really. Hate. English. Please, [teacher], just stop. I can't.

Sorry. Having English first thing in the morning sucks, especially when you already hated the class.

So I was going to continue researching for my chem presentation but then I started talking to my mom....about insurance.

English is awesome. You need that shit so you can write all poetical on your resume to get a sweet, sweet job making green, green dollars. You also need that shit so you can sound all intellectual-like to your co-workers when the Great Gatsby movie (or whatever movie based on a book) comes out and you hate it because X, Y, or Z and you totally read that shit in English and the book was way better or more nuanced.

And then somebody is like "but Baz Lurhkjdfhman and Leo di Cjdfksdhajdio are like the OTP of old books" and you'll get what they mean because you read both of the things they're talking about.

Knowing about chemistry's only useful if you want to be a chemist. Or a matchmaker.

Alright, fine, I like reading and stuff but I absolutely hate writing, especially about things I don't know enough about.

Chemistry is good. Chemistry......okay so the only times I use chemistry (kind of) are when I dye things. But it'll come in handy later....

I'm pretty much completely left brained. (wait that's the correct side...right?)
Why/how am I a cosplayer? Yeah, I don't know either.

I DO know that I kind of really want an embroidery machine now. >.>

Yes. Exactly. Captain America isn't a boy scout, though. He's just a product of a different era. He was World War II America, whereas Iron Man was America post-Cuban Missile Crisis.

Boy scout is my pet name for him

I don't know shit about half the shit I write about, yet my masterful command of the English language tricks people into thinking I am the foremost expert on all subjects. Yea verily and forsooth (<---fancy english words that mean I'm smart)

I find Tony Stark's personality to be grating. I liked him better in 3, where he seemed vulnerable. It made him less obnoxious. I don't hate him, but I like Captain America better.

Maybe I just have thing for nice boys from the 40's.

Btw, we have named the guinea pig Carlton. I doubt he'll ever do the dance though.

He always has vulnerabilities, he just doesn't show it. The assholishness is a huge front to make things suck less.

Hell no son! I have hella sketches, free and paid for at my disposal!

Eh, RDJ's performance has pretty much defined comics' Stark since 2006. Aside from Extremis, Stark's been poorly written since...the 80s.

And I've been paid to review comics for roughly 3 years, and reading for 20+. So I really want to know what books you're reading, because yo, the likes of Grant Morrison, Brian K Vaughn, Matt Fraction, Chris Ware, Bryan Lee O' Malley, Hope Larson, Kate Beaton, Gail Simone....you get the point, that's an extremely weak argument. Granted there's always going to be attachment of male power fantasies to comics, that's really no different than movies/video games/shonen manga.

Which is a shame, because this is a golden age for comics. DC aside. #shotsfired. There's good for-all-ages licensed stuff (MLP, AT, ATLA), awesome independent stuff from Image/Dark Horse/Avatar, and hell, this Marvel NOW thing is actually paying off creatively. Honestly, Western/European comics are just as diverse as Manga, ESPECIALLY if you're factor in web comics.

People rag on the 90s, but there's a decent amount of good stuff to come out from it, let alone the push for creator's right. Let us not forget Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, Vertigo rose to fame in that decade, and produced some of the best books the field has seen to date.

Also Batman: The Animated series, which I know, animated, but it's still comics related.

BS is....100% right. He's very much a Howard Hughes character.

That being said, I've always preferred Cap to Iron Man, simply because he had a cooler rogue's gallery. Not that I'm knocking Stark mind you, because if we're talking favorite Avengers, my top 5 are Spider-Man, Hawkeye, Ms/Captain Marvel, the Hulk and then Cap.

Nostalgia can be.

What I thought was OK in terms of media when I was a teenager is very different from what I enjoy today. And perspective can be colored by what I actually submit myself to.

I mean, if I watched only shit school anime instead of the series I watch now --- I'd think anime sucks XD

Fixed, because I'm a snarky asshole.

Chris, examples of good writers aside, you have to admit that from about 1991 to 1996, comic book characters were all being written with a case of Spider-Man smartmouth, to the point of embarrassment.

Case in point, this little asshole:
