Those boggled my mind during school and I now do that for a living routinely --- the biggest issue with the classes was that they didn't provide proper context for the processes they had us write documents for. However, I never studied to be a systems engineer (so it might be different from what you're being taught), it was a college degree for administrative application development.

Keep at it and it will make sense eventually --- programming is challenging and frustrating even once you have a proper grasps of the 'standards' (I use the term loosely --- scholarly institutions love talking about standards, but approach to application development in the working world requires varying degrees of flexibility that often have little to do with the standards school talked about).

And that's what developers worldwide have to do routinely! XD

If you're not the original author of the function you're editing, there might be an issue with it to begin with. Or it's the way you're passing your parameters to it, or one of your variable conversions goes wrong.

I admit I'm curious to see the function itself and what your aim with it is --- just because I somewhat enjoy figuring that stuff out.
IEA is very physics-ey. It pretty much IS physics, as everything involves vectors and forces and moments about X point and stuff. It's slightly sad because my physics major boyfriend can't help me. So no programming....I actually just looked at the elec+biomed engineering dual major syllabus and I don't have any more programming classes after this. Which makes me kind of sad, because I like programming and my mistake from earlier was really stupid. Maybe I'll minor in CS instead of cognitive science. :'D (I was planning cogsci but all of the discussion in one of the core cogsci classes is killing me)

It's actually a rather simple function. Our homework this week is basically 8 simple functions; the one I was working with at the time was finding the fraction of words with the same first/last letter that are longer than 3 letters. So basically if word[0]==word[-1] and len(word)>3. Which I've had from the beginning, I just commented out a part of code that I shouldn't have.

Maybe he noticed all the similarities that came about because you helped them and marked everyone down for that?

I largely was only explaining what to do to the ones who asked me to help, not drawing their drafts for them, so that probably wasn't it. And most of the classmates I asked hadn't asked for my help and weren't total beginners at sewing/drafting. I am SO glad this assignment was only 5% of our mark. But I'd better start doing a hell of a lot better... I'd be LESS exasperated if I didn't understand the material. I do, in fact I find it pretty easy, and apparently it's still wrong....

also: should I be offended when coworkers make disparaging comments about "the lesbians" on an opposing team or relieved that at least in this office, these comments aren't being directed at me?

I would be offended, and I'm straight! If something is offensive, it doesn't matter where it is directed.

I actually have "central heterochromia" so only the outer part of the iris is blue. The inner part is gold, but it's hard to see that with my shitty webcam. It just makes me look really creepy in the right light and helps me win staring contests.
