People who carry are erring on the side of paranoia.

I just run everybody I see over with a tractor before they have the chance to do anything. Blood is good for the crops.

I remember seeing this guy on The Daily Show say that because the gun laws are so strict that even the Yakuza can't find a way to get some. They mainly have resorted to using swords.

Wait, the constitution did not say anything about owning a fleet of tractors.

It is my God Given Right as a Murkan to own as many goldurn tractors as I see fit, whether that be one hundred, two hundred, the number that comes after six, or a billion tractors!! You hear that sound? That's what it sounds like when we cultivate freedom.

Rights are governed by necessity and the social conscience so they absolutely ARE about technology. Hence why we are having trouble with Hackers over the internet, cyber-bullying, and wiki-leaks. Its why Paparazzi are allowed to chase celebrities to the point that they die in a hazardous car crash trying to get away.

Like I said before though. I'm not against carrying guns. I am for stricter gun laws however. Current gun laws are not enough.

Furthermore, there is no such thing as a 'basic human right'. Your rights are granted to you by the society you live in. Our basic human rights in the U.S. differ greatly from the basic human rights of someone in China or North Korea. And in pre-civilized history you had the right to survive or die and there was no law short of the ultimate law of "Only the strong survive." That's why governments evolved in the first place, to allow society to flourish without being subject to the natural order of life. It is the government and the law and the social conscience that has allowed us to come as far as we have, but it is a double edged sword. When times get hard and resources are thin or one man thinks his rights supersede those of another, we decay into anarchy and are once again subject to the natural order of life.

If society believes that no one individual should own any kind of firearm, then that, in essence, determines your basic human rights.

The Canadian government is run by a "if you disagree you're fired" system in the majority party (Conservatives) and nobody is willing to stand up and say the right thing for fear of their jobs. However because of the fact that all the scandals are fairly minor or under the radar, none of the actual citizens care enough to make a difference.

They are also passing laws that allow attack ads to quote out of context (eg. "Killing... Babies is fun" when people actually meant "Killing mosquitoes that attack babies is fun") And so far released one ad that does that. It's sort of like they're recreating the laws to further their war tactics.

I used to like the conservatives because they didn't really do much which was nice... but nobody is really noticing this 'funny business'.

So this is a bit of a story, but there's a point to it.

I just started volunteering at a thrift store in my town that also offers food services to needy families. There are two options: the monthly food allotment from the food bank, and cardboard boxes with donated food from the shop's pantry for more 'emergency' (short-term, non-monthly) based aid. Well, a woman came in today with her daughter to get one of the boxes. It was her first time using the service, so she had documentation and everything she showed me. While filling out her information and getting her a box, she told me about her experience with trying to get food stamps. Last year, it apparently took her 2-3 months to start receiving food stamps, then just this past June they cut her off from them when she started receiving assistance that raised her income above the maximum required to qualify for them. Now some people claim those on food stamps abuse the system, but all I keep thinking about is what about those people whom it helps? Before they left, I told her if she still needed help with food to come back and we'd get her set up with the monthly food bank allotment, but the whole deal really doesn't sit right with me.

It always bothers me when food stamp benefits are cut because oftentimes (and in this economy) that's sometimes all people have to buy food with. Even then, it's such a small amount it's super-difficult to eat properly. And of course the government is talking about gutting benefits again since the economy as of late has made the program cost billions.

"Welfare recipients are buying groceries with their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards and packing them in giant barrels for the trip overseas, The Post found.

The practice is so common that hundreds of 45- to 55-gallon cardboard and plastic barrels line the walls of supermarkets in almost every Caribbean corner of the city."

I support the food stamp program, but the amount of fraud is tremendous. I definitely disagree with illegal aliens receiving the benefits.

You know, you have quite a way with words when not cracking shitty puns.

As for my input into this conversation, you can just imagine my usual hippie, liberal bullshit. Guns are bad etc. I don't have the energy today.
