Subject Delta - Bioshock 2

This is definately a work in progress.
This is the main helmet for Subject Delta. I have it primed and ready for final painting, but before I go that far, I wanted some feedback. I don't want to get the final paint on, notice something or have someone else go "you know if you had..." The paint that I am using is not cheap and I want to make sure it is ready.

Reference:

Toward the bottom of the back there is a rough looking area, but that is OK as it will be covered by the back plate the tanks will be mounted on.

The two holes in the front are for the eye bolts that the weight will be tied too.

The masked off areas in the front are the chest lights. They are working LED banks so I had to tape off the lenses.

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

Thanks. Spent today smoothing out some more rough spots and re-priming. Also finished the paint job on the two tanks I have to carry on my back.

Looks good so far. The only thing I noticed is that on the model, there appears to be a groove running beneath the screws in the front. The surface looks just like the "metal" on the model. great job!

Thanks Tonyu. The groove was a feature I knew was there, but when I started building this, I completely spaced and forgot to carve it in. Now I am afraid to because of all the layers on there, so I am hoping to paint in on there instead or just go without.

Well there is the groove, but there seems to be some kind of handle on the back of his head.

@Mithrenniel: Thanks. Good eye. Yup there are two U shaped handles on the back of the helmet. I bought a pair for that just the other day and now that I have the final coat of primer on the helmet, I'll be mounting them next. I'm still going to look and see if I can't fake the groove with just painting tricks and if not, well...my Delta just won't be as groovy. sorry bad pun is bad.

Thanks. It does have a foam skeleton underneath, but the skin is all mache. If you want, I have build pictures and some description on my blog The Real Redneck Geek. Feel free to visit.

It is looking good so far, but how is the weight of it? Be careful not to make it to where you can only wear it for a few hours :/

@ontilt - Thanks!

I need to upload newer picks with the better primer color. Hopefully final paint will be coming soon. If the weather will ever warm up and stay that way.

@miyavilover666 - Thanks, and trust me, weight is not an issue. The whole helmet is only foam and mache with a coat of resin for hardening. It weighs almost nothing. My wife asked me that same question one time, so I had her go over and try to pick it up. She nearly threw it through the ceiling. The only real weight will come with the tanks that I am going to mount on the backpack. Hopefully the shoulder straps and hip belt will help carry the weight, but even if they turn out to be too heavy, I've got a plan to rebuild them much lighter (which I may do anyway since I tend to be lazy).

I saw on your blog the pictures with the copper colour. Must say, it is looking really good. I can't wait to see it put together. Just one question, how do you breath in that thing? XD

@Colypso: LOL! Thanks! And thanks for checking the blog too. The color there is still only a primer but looks pretty good. As for breathing, it's easy now. The front glass and LEDs aren't in yet. Once they are in place, I pray the fans I added help the air.
