Talking Steampunk Tutorials!

Title says all! Just looking for some steampunk tutorials to get me started! I'm more interested in modding stuff to look steampunk than the fashion itself! Specially helpful if someone has a tutorial for a steampunk wristwatch or modding a nintendo ds to look steampunk-ish. This thread is also welcome to tips if anyone has some that they would like to share!

Here are some that i've already found:

I've seen it quite frequently, what exactly is steampunk and how does it fit into manga and anime. Can't seem to quite grasp it <.<

Steampunk doesn't fit into anime/manga. It's a separate genre but when you dress in steampunk outfits it IS still cosplaying so it fits with this site. Steampunk would fall into historical cosplays (since it's Victorian era with a steamy/science(y) twist). But, since it's so popular it gets its own forum. ^^

As for an actual description of what it is THIS LINK should help.

So Steamboy isn't an anime movie?

Steampunk is an anachronistic movement that mixes the Victorian era and Industrial REvolution with "modern" gadgets. In short, Industrial Revolution meets Sci-Fi. I suggest you research a bit around google, and if you find a... is it livejournal? called Brass Goggles by all means read it. ^^

It fits in anime and manga because it is also a literary and animation genre. ^^ There's a Manga called... Steampunk. XD Steamboy is the quintessential personification of Steampunk in Anime (it's a very interesting movie, you should watch it, I widely recommend it. ^^), Howl's Movie Castle, and even some FF can be called Steampunk.

People tend to think Steampunk is some far cry from anime and manga because they don't realize Steampunk is so much more than fashion, gadgets and the Maker's Faire. It's in literature, animation, comics, movies, etc etc. It's just that people don't really have a name for it. ^^

I wasn't trying to separate it completely from anime. It's a genre type like action, adventure, historical ect. It's not common in anime (or any media), though, it does exists in anime (and other media) it just takes some digging.
And you're right. People don't realize that steampunk can be apart of anime because it is mostly seen in literature. I've only seen a couple comics with it and a small number of anime (because I looked and I'm not counting Miyazaki since his are pretty obvious).
Also, I like your description. ^^

And even Miyazaki isn't counted as Steampunk for being anime. XD

I'm sorry if I came off as an intolerant b*tch. I just am kinda tired. u.u It's pretty late in here and I've been trying to mix and matxh different pieces of clothing to achieve a casual steampunkish closet outfit. XD

Howl's Moving Castle and Laputa is very steampunk in my opinion. His others... not at all. But yeah. It's alright. I just felt like I needed to clear things up. It's late here too. >.>
