Buying Grey Latex Body paint, help meh! D:
I've been looking around for some grey liquid latex body paint for a group cosplay I'm getting together. We plan on going as the Noah Family from D. Grey Man, but without the body paint the cosplays would be unfinished. I've really been having a hard time finding it myself but if you all had any advice or knew of a place that sells that kind of stuff online I would really appreciate it. |

I would advise to not use latex for this(from what I found on google, I haven't seen the anime).
You need to cover a good deal of skin, and latex is not breathable at all. I advise against using anything non breathable as a body paint. If it seals your pores, its it not healthy to cover large areas of skin for long periods of time. You skin can't breath and cant sweat, if its warm out someone could pass out, especially if you are wearing wigs too. Not to mention how painful it is to get latex out of the little baby hairs that cover your body, even with remover. You can still get the same effect out of the water or alcohol based body paints. You may have to touch them up a few times during the day, but your skin will be very happy about it. Kryolan aquacolors have good coverage for a good price, but if you really want to durability and have it not transfer to objects that are handled look into skin illustrators, or temptu professional colors. They are alcohol based paints, and they stay on really well. They are on the pricey side, but no more then colored liquid latex. They are marketed to be done with an airbrush, but you can get an even coverage with a seas sponge as well.

Here's a GREAT tutorial for grey makeup - http://www.mspaforums.com/showthread...=1#post4167924
The trolls in Homestuck are grey, so there should be a number of good resources for doing grey makeup well within that fandom! |

The only thing liquid latex has going for it (as a bodypaint) is that it can be used for quick-change effects, when you need to peel off the effect quickly.
HOWEVER, if you really want grey liquid latex, just buy natural (uncolored) liquid latex, and mix in grey acrylic paint, such as Liquitex. You must be careful to mix it thoroughly. I do this by adding a small blob of paint to the bottom of a disposable plastic bowl, then slowly drip/drizzle in the latex while stirring. The ratio of paint to latex is dependent on the pigment concentration of the paint, and the effect you are going for, so you gotta do some testing. Keep in mind that the color of dried latex is very different from its liquid form. Last edited by verdatum : 05-06-2011 at 01:26 PM. Reason: clarification |
